Go to the link below and read through the guides. There are multipul guides on diffrent programs that you can use to backup a DVD. So look through them and learn as much as you can.

maybe you can give us some more info:

    what are your pc stats?
    what media you are using?
what burning and conversion software you currently have?

    Dude try some of these......

DVDFab Decryter http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm use this tool to rip the dvd, its dead easy only couple of buttons to press.

Then put it through Vobblanker which will remove any further rubbish on the disc.

    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/VobBlanker.htm

( This is a quick guide to vobblanker from alkohol in another post )

    (1) INPUT = browse to hard drive and load the VIDEO_TS.IFO that DVDFAB Decrypter ripped earlier
    (2) OUTPUT = make a new VIDEO_TS folder on your hard drive (for example if the movie is Narnia, then called it Narnia Blanker and a sub-folder VIDEO_TS inside Narnia)
    (3) click "PROC.ALL" at the right
    (4) click "PROCESS" at the bottom

Then put your new VIDEO_TS folder through DVDShrink,

    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm

Then burn it with imgburn from

    http://www.imgburn.com/

Burn with good media such as Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden at a slow speed

These are all free but if you want to pay for software you could use Anydvd combined with Clonedvd2, but it will cost about £40. A 21 day trial can be downloaded from http://www.slysoft.com/en/clonedvd.html

    Good luck
