Why is it that some dvd's after back up will play in some dvd players and won't play in others.I use Verbatims from Sams and I use Sony MIJ's.
Why? Too many possibilities Best way to make backups compatable? Booktype them!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Usually comes down to compatability. Backup dvds can be trickier on stand alone players/game consoles/and pc dvd drives. Those drives were meant to play the pressed in dvd-rom format from original dvds. Backup dvds are burned,so a totally different format of plus or dash. That's where the compatability comes in. There's a slew of variations between lasers in all those writers and players. You have 2 different types of playback issues when it comes to playing backups: 1) No disc/wrong format/wrong region/or dirty disc errors: Usually means a player doesn't recognize your backups. a)Switch format b) Booktype plus format to dvd-rom-if burner is capable c) Different brand of media-if it's a crappy brand d) Crappy quality burner-fiwmare need updated, but some drives are crappy when it comes to stand alone playability. e) Stand alone player with a lot of wear and tear 2) Freezing/pixellation/skipping/jumping-but at least the backup is trying to play. a-e above f) Speed of burn-too fast or too slow g) Sticker labels h) Fragmented harddrive i) Burning too close to edge j) Dirty laser lens in player that shows those issues, after ruling out a-j. There are also more possibilities for playback issues. You're using some quality media, but I'm not sure of which format of those sony tys and verbatims.Switch to opposite. You're recieving a message like in #1: Usually format switch to the opposite,if you have a dual format writer. Another option, but depending on your dvd-rw drive is to booktype your backups using the plus format, and booktype them to dvd-rom. This fools stand alone players into thinking they are the actual dvd-rom format, that originals are. What's the brand name/model# of your dvd-rw drive? I've seen just about every type of playback issue imaginable. If using quality media, then a lot of those causes will be eliminated. Make sure your dvd-rw drive recognizes and plays its own backup,to near original in quality. They need to be practically perfect, when you view them on your pc's dvd-rw drive along with a great program like windvd or powerdvd. After that, the stand alone players factor in and it's a whole new ball game. The Main thing is quality. Quality booktyping dvd-rw drive/quality media/ and a standard 4x-8x burn. After that formula, then it's usually stand alone players fault!!!!
