Good temp for XP2000 CPU

I have a computer with an Athlon XP 2000 processor. I just had a problem with the computer overheating and shutting down. After opening it up and cleaning out all the dust I am back up and running.

So what I was wondering is what is a good temp for this processor to be running at. I have speedfan installed and I am running at 46-48C under full load while running DVDShrink. Is this a good temp?

Some info, I have a Thermalright heatsink (SLK 900a I think). I don't have artic silver on the cpu, it is ceramique from the same company. I have a 120mm fan on this. I have a 80mm on side and back for exhaust.

 

Sounds perfectly fine.

Keep cleaning of the system on a monthly basis. Dust collections absorb heat, keeping the system from disappating it.

 

first you have one of the best coolers.
try some artic silver 5 it helps!! you can cut 3-5 c even more.
do you have any case fans??
is your cpu overcloked?

46-48C° is ok for amd cpus.
check in your mobo bios if you have heat,temp protection enable because mobo with overheat proteccion automaticly turn off when reach specific temp.

 

I do have some artic silver 5 on the way so I will make sure to use that. I was pretty sure that it was a good heatsink. I remember doing a lot of research before purchasing it a few years back.

I will have to check the bios. This is an old motherboard - Abit kx7-333. Thanx for the knowledge.

oh yeah I have an 80mm fan on the side and back of the case blowing air out. no overclocking

 

when you get the artic silver read the instruction. beacuse if you use it the wrong instead of cutting 3-7c° it can do the opposite

If you're below 50ºC full load, you're doing fine, I repeatedly exceed 60 without incident.

 

also try a smaller fan like 92mm runs faster but noisy i found this link than can help because i think that heatsink can do better than that!1

You want bigger fans because they're quieter and put out more airflow.

 

I only post this here because dust was the factor in heat. What's the easiest/most effective way to clean dust out of your system?? If it should be done on a monthly basis(I sure didn't know that), I've heard air dusters were bad... Is that what everyone else uses?? I thought they were bad for inside computers because they can blow dust around into places where the dust couldn't get by itself...

 

Not if you're careful and sensible they can't. Just don't leave carpets developing on the legs of circuitry and stuff, and clean out fans often.
I think air dusters are great, but old toothbrushes are good for a thorough spring clean.

 

i use toothbrush is the best and sometimes with extreme care har dryer (cold air of course).

and clean case fans often normally they are responsable for all the dust inside computer case.

 

Oh yes indeed, well unless youve some other vents of course, but as soon as your fans clog up, the temperatures soar.... Glad to see I do agree with some people!
