    Here's some suggestions.
Update Nero to the latest version - 7.0.8.2. In Nero ToolKit>Nero Product SetUp - pick update your Nero product.
The latest firmware is DL13 - update to that.
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2126
    Try 8x to burn.
What kind of trouble are you having reading DVD's?

..and if you're unlucky like me, you might not be able to get more than 4x (consistently) out of your 4167B, there are duff drives out there. mine worked 100% perfectly at 4x but very flaky at 8x.

    Ok,

I tried to update to dl13, but that helped me nothing. that was actually when the trouble started. i downloaded it directly from lg's website.

I am currently downloading the new version of nero.

When i put a dvd in my drive, the green led light just keep on blinking. and i can't access the drive. in explorer it changes to a normal cd drive. and it says that there is no media in. this happens with all my writed dvd's. i use verbatim's.

    thx.

Try again with the updated Nero and reduced burn speed. Use Creaky's suggestion of 4x.
If this fails post that log. Most of what I found on this error is media related. So even though Verbatim is good stuff you may need to try another brand like made in Japan Fuji,Sony or Maxell.

So the problems reading are w/ the copies that you made? It sounds like your drive just doesn't like this media. Have you tried to play them in your other LG drive? Or a standalone?

Cool, thank you Binkie7 and creaky. I'll try with the new nero and start of with 8x write. It's just strange because it worked all the time before. Did burn about 25-30 Verbatim 16X DVD's before the problem started.

What exactly do you mean my problem is media-related???

Thank you again for all your trouble.

Media related means the blanks you are using. MCC is good stuff and recoginized by your drive.
So take it down to 4x as Creaky suggested. Creaky has the same drive and was able to good burns at 4x.
Let us know how that turns out!

It sounds like some of it started when you updated the firmware. Did that go well or was there some type of error message?

To test, you might try disconnecting some of your other drives.

    - my understanding is that this error isn't in fact a real error but a symptom of other problems. as per binkie7 try at 4x and see how it goes... my faulty 4167B has been unplugged and kept as a general use drive for when i build a new PC. My 4163B and new Benq DW1650 quite fare always used at 8x, even concurrently using Nero's 'multiple recorders' feature and my 4167B was actually faulty from new...

The firmware part is not really my area of expertise! ;-) You should be able to revert to an earlier firmware without problems, but I have seen a couple of messages that mentioned after certain updates you could not go back. Anyway, try updating to the newer firmware and make sure you don't get an error message. Try doing it in safe mode, but make sure you have the correct firmware for your drive, and the correct application to write it.

To test to see if you can get the drive to burn, just disconnect the other DVD drives by pulling the power connectors and probably the IDE connectors. Doing this would eliminate possible low power situations or controller problems which might be leading to your situation. Make sure the DVD drive you are using is set to master on an IDE channel, and the jumpers are set to master, if you use them. If it works with the others disconnected, try reinstalling one at a time to see if you can pin down the problem.

You might also check and make sure you don't have any power saving features active that might try to shut down parts of the computer. You might also try doing the simulation before burning.

    Hopefully updating Nero will help.

    Hi, guys.

Mmmm, looks like my problem is not over yet. I installed CD BurnerXP on my computer, writing a DVD aaat 4x and still got a PMA update failure. That was after I had upgraded my firmaware and with just the writer on the secondary IDE cable. I also installed the latest version of Nero. Then I tried to write a DVD with nero, but to no avail. I used TDK and Verbatim on both occassions. (Damn, this is getting quite expensive!!!).

Anyway, here is the lateest log. If I don't reply, I am going to format my computer and see if that works.

    Thanks...

    what's this here -
    ???..

..also, you don't need to waste discs, simply vtick 'simulation' and untick the burn button then Nero goes thru the motions of a burn with the blank disc but doesn't write to it, then produces another section of logfile...

    Hi,

This is my Daemon Tools Image drive. I think that that might be the problem

Well, after I had formatted my whole computer, reinstalled Windows, and only installed my office suite, and all my virus ware, I started with simulation on several different kind of DVD's, i.e. TDK and Verbatim. Needless to say, in some strange astronomical way it worked, and even works at 16x. Don't know what I did right, but something did work. I think that it might have something to do with Daemon Tools' Image Drive. Anyway, posting the SUCCESSFULL log of the simulation done on a Verbatim DVD-R at 16x.

Thanks for all your trouble guys. Know where to go when ever I get anykind of problem.

    Many Thanks.
