blue screen

    hello,
    i was playin around with my ide cables on my two dvd drives tryin to make one of them work. i guess something happend cuz now, even with them unplugged, when windows starts loadin, about 3-4 bars into it it bluescreens and restarts. i was wonderin if you could tell me how to make it not auto restart and also if you know what i could have done. i can still get into bios and all fine.

    im using xp sp2.

    Not quite sure what set up you have, if you say ' even with the drives unplugged ' it starts loading, then what drive are you booting from?

    If you where playing whilst the system was powered on, chances are you've buggered the drive or controller, they are not hop swappable and you've probably fried it.

    Erm, they're DVD drives, he said that.

    But yes, BigDK is right, if you unplugged them, or more to the point, reattached them with the system powered up you may well have damaged the IDE controller.

    Ah, just a messed up windows installation. panic over then!

    Lol that's fair, although envious this may make you, I have some way to go before I would term myself old, I'm back at school on Monday!
