my friend asked me to help him out... he has a western digital 300gb hard drive in an external case. when we hook it up to a usb port, XP does recognize it but when we go to my computer it doesn't list the drive. i tried the troubleshooter and it says the device is working properly. please advise.

If it was working already, then it may just be the IDE-USB controller has gone faulty.

If it a new install he has just made, then he will need to set th hard drive up first before installing it in the USB caddy.

Far easier to just add it to the PC an a spare IDE connection and then setting the partition info and format, then just put it in the caddy and it will work okay.
