Hi! I'm still trying to learn this burning thing...I was using DVD Shrink for a while and it was working great. Then out of the blue it decided to fail on me and i've wasted so many dvd's. It does, however, still burn music cds. I'm attaching the error message so maybe someone can help. I've read a ton of bulletins regarding a similar problem but it always seems like no two problems are exactly the same. Can someone help me (i've already spent over 4 hours with Dell who just made problems worse) and explain this to me in the simplest way possible! I'd appreciate it more than ever!

Wow! I can't believe I actually read all that... and I still don't know what the problem is! lol

My only advice is to make sure your Firmware is up to date.

Try good brand of Disc (like Verbatim).

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Well, first thing I see from your log, you don't have DMA turned on for your DVD drives.

    "CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163B atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
    CdRomPeripheral : TEAC DVD+RW DV-W58E atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off "

Start by getting that turned back on and see if that clears up your problems.

Go here to see how to turn DMA back on:

Cool thanks for the info! Just one more question. I went to update the firmware except this scared me:

"These pages are only for advanced users. Bad flashing could destroy your drive definitively. Read carefully the installation notes of your firmware before you upgrade. The Firmware Page and the drive manufacturer can't be responsable on REMEMBER: This is at your own risk!!!"

I'm not very advanced and afraid to make my computer worse. Should I continue to do it anyways? Anything I should know?

    Thanks!

Is only dangerous if you use the wrong firmware.
The firmware is what the burner needs to be compatible
    with newer media.
Also the newest version of Nero broke the connection with shrink,
So if you are using DVD shrink then DONT update the nero.
Lastly,DVD shrink cannot decrypt newer movies alone,
You may want to try Anydvd running in the background,
It will decrypt the movie automatically, and let you run
DVd shrink as you normally would.
AnyDVD has a free 21 day trial and comes HIGHLY recommend,
And with the promotion code 'afterdawn' you get a discount!

Cheers and welcome to the forums.
