Hello, im new to backing up dvds I currently have a asus DRW 1608p2 and some TDK 16x dvd+r, for software I own AnyDVD, CloneDVD2 and Nero 7 ultra edition. My Test burn was a stargate season 4 DVD. With AnyDVD running in the background I created the DVD image and saved it to my hardrive, then using Nero I Burned it as a dvd image. The dvd does not play in any drive, I have tried Three difernt ones. Did I miss a step or do something wrong? I purchased a benq (DW1650 BK) and a 100 pack of ty's 8x DVD-R (tyg02) that should be arriving friday. I was reluctant to buy 8x media but with the devotion of many of this boards posters toward ty I decided I couldnt go wrong. Having 4 dvd players all manufactured by difernt companys I wish to make backups that should be able to play on anything out there. This brings me to my second question boottyping does this only work on dvd+r? and if so without spending more money on media will this current setup be able to produce my desired result? Thank You
Episode DVDs are a little different than normal and sometimes require special care in backing up. The problem could have been the media you used and the burn speed. Did you burn at 16X? TDK media, for the most part, isn't very good. Why didn't you just use CloneDVD2 with AnyDVD? Was there some special reason for the image? Only +R can be boodtyped. I've been using the discs you ordered without problems for some time now. I only get "coaster" when it's my error. Good choice on the BenQ DW1650.
Ya, I did burn at 16x and I used CloneDVD to create an iso image to my harddrive and then used nero to burn that image is there an easier way to do it, and I was also wondering if I have a dvd drive along with the dvd burner can I just run AnyDVD and copy the disc drive to drive? Are you sugestioning I use the rip video-dvd function with AnyDVD? Thank You dolphin for your reply
16X is way to fast for those TDKs. I would suggest no faster than 8X (and that maybe pushing them). Just because a disc is rated at a certain speed, doesn't mean that it's a good speed for the disc. I would only burn quality TY or Verbatim's (and some of those have had questions lately) at rated speed. When you get your DW1650, there is a utility for it called QSuite. Part of it "learns" the discs you are using and will burn at the best speed. It's not a real good idea to burn disc to disc. It leads to problems. It's better to copy (rip) the DVD to your hard drive and then burn from there. The reason people have a DVD-ROM and a writer is to cut down on the wear and tear of the writer. Let the ROM do all the reading and the writer do it's job. I have two writers in my system and switch back and forth giving each a turn at burning. I works for me. If you use the ripper that now comes with AnyDVD, then you would have to compress the DVD after it finished. That's extra steps and done only when necessary. What I was asking was why didn't you just use CloneDVD2 to backup the disc? When you first open the program, there are 3 buttons on the right. The middle one, Clone DVD is the one to use. It will rip the disc to a temp folder then burn the DVD after. It will then delete the contents of the temp folder. hi t_2am. here is a guide for using anydvd and dvdclone: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/BACKUP WITH CLONEDVD&ANYDVD.pdf to back up episodic tv dvds, you want to make sure you check the "preserve menus" box in the upper right hand corner of the second window. i would suggest you use the "clone dvd... including all titles and menus" in opening window of clonedvd. you can still delete things is desired, just don't delete the menus. note that you must select where you want the ripped file to be placed on your hard drive, so you will have it there. i believe you can read from a dvd rom and write to your dvd burner, but it will not be "on the fly". i could be wrong, but i believe it will rip the original first, and then burn once the ripping has been completed. hope this helps. geo
