Did you get this backing up a commercial DVD? If so, it is likely due to structural copy protection.

    Two solutions:

    1. Use AnyDVD http://slysoft.com
    2. Use DVDFab Decrypter (free) see the link in my signature below.

You may also need to remove blank cells depending on the title and copy protection. VOB Blanker and other progs can do this.

I got dvdfabdecrypter but still no luck it says failed to open "C:\documentsandsettings\owner\mydocuments\dvds\vts_01_1.vob" system cannot find the specified file. When dvdfabdecrypter was finished it said the decrypting was successful. What do you think could have happened.

tripps, you have to answer the questions posed for people to be able to respond and try to help you. You still haven't informed us whether the disk is a commercial DVD and what the title is. If you tell us the title, we may be able to tell you that the disk is bad because it's easy to backup or that it requires special handling for backing up. Right now, I'd suggest downloading the trial version of AnyDVD, install that, and see if DVD Shrink can rip and encode directly from the DVD.

sorry I was at work all night, I am trying to burn Hostel, but I had the same problems with fun with dick and Jane and Memoirs of a geisha. I downloaded the trial vdrsion of anydvd and dvd fab decrypter, and it says that the decryption was succesfull, but when I try to open the file with dvd shrink it still gives me the dvd navigation error or the other one that I posted. On anydvd I have all the boxes checked under the reomve part, so what else do I need to do.

Had no problem with either Hostel or FWDAJ using AnyDVD with DVD Shrink directly from the DVD. Don't have MOAG. Try running your ripped files through VOB Blanker and then use Shrink. Otherwise there must be something odd in your setup. You might uninstall DVD Shrink and then reinstall a fresh copy.

Itried vob blanker but when it was done and I opened the file usinf dvd shrink itsaid the file size was 6400 and could not be compressed. I seen movies be a little over but that was rediculous, so I bviously did something wrong. I selected my burner as the input file and the folder that I always save temporary dvdfiles to as my destination, I was assuming that it would erase the existing files. Does vob blanker not do that?

Uninstall DVD Shrink. Restart and then install a new copy. Then, using AnyDVD 5.9.6.0 with the default settings, see if DVD Shrink can rip the main title in Backup mode. It should be able to.
