We can assume that you have the motherboard to go from an Intel cpu to an AMD cpu?

Oh yes, I will look for a board, but I'm asking if this will be worth it. Mainly for encoding and editing video. Which alot here know takes alot of time and CPU power.

Hmmm, how much is your overall budget? Besides cpu and motherboard, what else do you need to buy nad what will you be keeping?

Budget is about $200-$250 and everything else doesn't really need an upgrade. 200gb hd, 1gb of RAM, GeForce 6600 256mb video. I just need to shave off some time on encodings, and have a more modern CPU.

I do know the AMD one is a very good cpu but if I was going to upgrade I'd seriously look into a dual core chip. Also, I have read it so many times from so many places and that is that for encoding, video editing, etc. RAM is real important. I suggest another Gig of RAM.
