First items that you will need:

A previously modified Xbox, so have one of your friends come over and borrow his or hers, it can be either hard or soft modded. Or you can use a USB dongle.

Auto Installer Deluxe Disc v3.0, download it from the usual places.

A PC, and any FTP program

An Xbox memory card, get a used one for $5-10 at any videogame store
Mech Assault or Splinter Cell, version does not matter! Get it used for $6 too.

    Now, lets begin,

Put the AID v3.0 disc in your PC, follow the path below, X being the letter of your PC's disc drive

X:\Auto.Installer.Deluxe.v3.0.Xbox-Hq\Auto.Installer.Deluxe.v3.0.Xbox-Hq\Tools\SID 3.1 Final, from here extract these files:

    SID31.Final.Launcher, SID31.Loader.SplinterCell.NTSC, and SID31.Loader.Mechassault.

Now, you need to get the above mentioned files onto the memory card.

We can accomplish this by taking a previously modified Xbox, placing a memory card into its controller, I am assuming that you already have your PC networked to the Xbox at this stage, FTP the 3 files, unzip them first, from your PC to the memory card. My Xbox for example identifies the memory card as folder F, so I transfer the 3 files to folder F, after a successful transfer they will appear, in your FTP view as folders with the following file names: 21585554, 4d530017, and 5553000c in folder F. If you view the Xbox hardrive or memory card they will be named: SID 3.1 Installer, SID3 MechAssault, SID3 Splinter Cell NTSC

Now, this is very important!!! It drives me crazy when I forget to do this... Turn on the unmodified Xbox goto the M$ Dash under Settings an ensure that the Auto Sign-In is set to disabled. If you forget to do this then what will happen is, after you have completed the softmod and re-start your Xbox it will boot to the M$ Dash and keep attempting to sign-in to Xbox Live. You'll need to use Xplorer or the XBMC file view goto C folder and activate the file xboxdash.xbe to get back to the M$ dash and turn off the auto sign-in.

Take the controller with the memory card, plug it into the unmodified Xbox, copy the 3 files from the memory card to your Xbox's hard drive.

If you are using the USB dongle method its pretty much the same but place the 3 files directly into the Xbox's hard drive in the following folder: /E:/UDATA/

** The letters of the folders may vary depending on how you have your particular Xbox setup**

Now put in either Mech Assault or Splinter Cell and follow the guidelines in the Softmod Installer Deluxe 3.1 Manual, Chapter 8, its on the AID disc in PDF format so make sure you have a PDF reader. Saw no reason to re-invent the wheel here.

I suggest that you choose the single boot option then simply edit the INI file to setup your menus the way you want. For instance on the Evox main menu there is a link to go to the M$ Dash, I had to edit the INI file so that the target file became msdash.xbe and that was it. Now it works the way I wanted, it boots to the Evox main menu, and if I need to set the date or change the IP settings. The link takes me to the M$ Dash no dealing with an open close or closed tray or buttons.
It made no sense to me that I had a Bios Checker and other Apps that I never intended to use, so I removed them from my menus and added Apps that I knew users would use most often. I suggest that you try to trim down the number of files, if you are not gonna use them delete them, the XBMC has multiple language files and PAL versions these items, they just take up space.

Now, your first install may not be as fast, because it depends on your overall knowledge of the Xbox but once you have perfected a setup thats to your liking the real benefit will come later.

Now, that its all setup to your liking FTP into your Xbox and copy folders C & E to your PC. Now, take these folders and burn them on to a CD-R, making a data CD, or backup if you will. Now, if anything ever happens to your Xbox you just follow the procedure below and you will be back in business in no time at all.

Now, the 3 minute or less install method!!!

Fire up the Xbox, turn off auto sign-in feature, take the saved files that are now on your memory card copy them to the Xbox's hard drive. Put in either game Mech Assault or Splinter Cell. Once you reach the AID setup screen set the Xbox's IP address. Now take the CD, the one with the copies of your C & E folders on it, place that into your PC, start your FTP program. Now delete the entire C & E folders from the Xbox and then transfer over the copies of the C & E folders from the CD, now guess what you just performed a softmod in 3 mins. No, need to pay $90 for a chip, follow this procedure and at most you will have a one time $15 expense, then you will have an Xbox that performs essentially the exact same way as a chipped Xbox and to think you never turned a screw.

I have modified hundreds of Xboxes using the above method, all that it initially took was for me to modify one Xbox with a cheap $20 Spider Chip. After establishing a good template to work from I simply repeated this process; The overall time depends on your PC, I have a 2.8 Ghz, with 2 Gigs of Ram, desktop that enables me to delete and transfer files that fast, thus my 3 mins or less softmod however, when I use my laptop (which is most often nowadays) it does takes a bit more time. I quite often mod Xboxes from my vehicle my already prepared soft mod folders disc makes it all possible.

I even went back and took the chips out of all my Xboxes, you just follow the same fast install procedure, turn off your Xbox, open it up take out your chip, when you power it on after you have reassembled it, you will still have a modded Xbox, then you of course can sell your chip to someone else and get your money back.

If I missed a step or if theres something within, that you did not understand, let me know.

Revisions have been made, may seem a bit tedious but you won't need to break the bank purchasing AR for $30 either.

I am posting here because I am doing something similar to this and it just backfired... Now I need help.

I have a backup folder containing all the files from a softmodded xbox that used Krayzie's Ndure installer 1.1

I have used this backup to create a lot of xbox using the method described.
(check 5960 version, copy 007 savegame, launch savegame, when in the savegame FTP my backup over)

However, yesterday someone came back telling me that his softmod had been erased by an xbox update from his top spin / amped 2 game.

I did copy everything (including the nkpatcher folder and the shadowc image). How is this possible, and what must I do?

    Thanks
