im thinking about getting a new pc by september. my budget is about 1150 cdn and i want to use the computer for backing up dvd's, watching dvd's and playing games. here is my first build. feel free to suggest other parts. thanx processer http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicati...details.asp?EdpNo=1526470&sku=CP1-A64-3800X E dvd burner http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1827009&sku=B145-8012 hard drive http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1388892&sku=THD-300A power supply http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1648064&sku=TC3J-1048 video card http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1819046&sku=P450-8572 mobo http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1428168&sku=A455-2116 ram http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=618631&sku=C13-5102 PT case http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=720575&Sku=D15-1010
i never noticed the pc had a 450 w psu thanx for pointing that out. where do you think it would be best to put the 30 dollars i was spending on the psu?
Personally I don't see the point of XMS RAM with a 7300GS video card. You won't be able to play any late games at reasonable frame rates. I'd suggest something of the order of: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1418374&CatId=1838
wow thats pretty expensive. do u have a suggestion on another vid card instead of the ram or another 1gb ram tahts cheaper? thanx
any reccomendation no matter what site would be good- i'll try and find it on one of the candadian sites
Typically corsair value select or standard kingston RAM is much cheaper than XMS, however I sent you a link for 2GB when all you said was 1. My mistake, I'll just use standard US newegg links for the products and you can go look wherever you choose (shame newegg don't ship to canada) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814131007 or alternatively http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814142052R if you don't mind refurb stuff. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145440 this is the stuff i'm talking about.
it turns out that my budget is now 1400. do you think i can build a system with a socket 940 processor with decent video capabilities for that price? how about this card instead of that one. im not sure but that one was the 800 and this is the 1600. is the 1600 any better? http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=17345&vpn=11072-00&manufacture=SAPPHIRE
The X1600XT will beat the lower end X800 cards (GTO, GT, Pro) but not necessarily the XL. The 1600 is basically the X800 but with Pixel shader 3 support. If you can stretch the X1800GTO is good, but that might be a tad pricey. The X1600XT is indeed your best bet for the amount of money it is. I wouldn't go socket 940, that's another platform that could see being superceded by AM2, I'm not exactly sure of its future.
but is the am2 not socket 940? i meant to say am2 in the post above sorry. o yeah... happy belated b-day sammorris
oh thanx for claryfing that for me. i guess i'll wait for the am2 and put one of them into my system in september. thanx for the advice
i have one more question: if the board says ati or nvidia does that mean we can only use that brand video card or does that mean the brand of graphics integrated into them?
It either means the chipset maker or the graphics chip. That doesn't stop you putting either brand GPU in.
well since the approaching release of am2 i have built a new system for 1400 cdn. any suggestions welcome: Mobo: Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2224204&sku=A455-2300 Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Socket AM2 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2207247&sku=CP1-AM2-4200 Ram:Kingston 2048MB PC3200 Dual Channel DDR 400MHz Memory (2 x 1024MB) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1075233&sku=K24-5824 Case:Raidmax Ninja Black ATX Mid-Tower Case with Clear Side, Front USB and Audio Ports and 450-Watt Power Supply http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1648611&sku=R456-1010 Video Card:EVGA GeForce 7600 GT http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1945399&sku=E145-7836 DVD Burner:BenQ DW1655 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1827009&sku=B145-8012 Hard Drive:Seagate / 300GB http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1197385&sku=TSD-300AS Sound Card: Turtle Beach Montego 7.1 Dolby Digital Live Surround PCI http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1419101&sku=T777-1028 Speakers: Logitech X530 70-Watt PC Multimedia Home Theater Speakers http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1068238&sku=L23-6322 The Total comes to 1397.91 I have one question: the ram slot on the board is 240 pin. will 184 pin ram work or will i have to get 240 pin ram?
