ok i have decided to just build my own pc slowly since i have parts from my other pc i can take my time and buy peice by peice so first i want to start off with a motherboard and a chip if you guys can recommend me some combos please do also please recommend any other parts that i should buy with the motherboard and a chip this is gonna be my first pc build so i appreciate eevrything
To really help you we need to know what your budget is first and then we need to know what you want to do with this new computer. It is difficult to give you sound advice without this information. That being said... Just 2 nights ago I built my first new rig in a long, long time. I spent 6 solid weeks in researching. The time spent in this endeavor was more than I had a right to. Anyway, from experience: 1. The motherboard I finally chose was the EPoX 9NPA+Ultra (non-SLi). Fantastic board. Many favorable reviews. I talked to many owners and they love it and so do I. It is an AMD board with the NForce 4 chipset. It is rock solid at stock settings and overclocks well, too, if you are into that sort of thing. It went in beautifully and booted up the first time. I am extremely pleased with my first purchase and they continue to support this board by releasing a new BIOS this past April. 2. Single core cpu: AMD Athlon 64 37000+ SanDiego. Dual Core cpu: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester. Both chips are the most popular right now, especially the Manchester. I'd buy either in a heartbeat if I could afford it, especially the Manchester. You also should consider a 3200+ Venice if you can't affored the chips I mentioned. It is another great cpu from AMD. 3. Please, make sure you get a GOOD power supply. Don't go cheap! It is the backbone of your entire system. People try to cut expenses by getting a cheaper cost power supply. You are only asking for trouble if you do. 4. Lastly, get 2 Gigs of RAM. Hope this helps.
OK. My budget is going to be 500, considering that i only need a motherboard chip and powersupply. Their really isnt much im trying to do with the pc. Im not into over clocking. the computer will be used for web browing dvd burning barely about 2-3 times a month and a little photoshop here and there not really too much. This is going to be my very first PC. And i wont go cheap on the powersupply btw what are some good top power supplies?
Good makers of power supplies are Antec, Enermax, and Fortran. What video card will you be using? AGP, PCI-Express? Because this will determine your motherboard for sure. Also, since you are not making this a gaming system you can easil;y drop down to a 3200+ for sure. $500 will do you fine.
Well i will do absolutely no gaming on my system at all. not 1 time. lol. But the current video card i have now is a apg and i was going to use that in my next pc and upgrade everything slowly. Since i mostly have everything i need, besides a good motherboard and a chip what exactly will i need to get a pc up and running while updating all other components slowly?
Without knowing what your starting system is it's hard to know what to recommend as your memory and some other components will not be compatible with some of the possibilities.
Ifyou upgrade your parts slowly you'll be left in the dust. Things move rapidly in the technology field. Both Intel and AMD are coming out with the next generation of CPUs and chipsets this year. In fact, AMD will release AM2 this month and next year they will be releasing AM3, sort of what happened to people who bought Socke 478 and then quickly AMD released Socket 939. AGP is basically dead. You can still purchase AGP motherboards and more powerful AGP cards, but basically there will be no more AGP cards built. Everything is going towards PCI-Express. Additionally, Microsoft will be releasing their VISTA oeprating system with DirectX 10. Even the most powerful video cards made today cannot and will not be able to utilize DX10-- though you will still be able to run Vista and play games. Here is y suggestion: Save your money up. Add to your $500 and wait for the dust to settle. New technology = Bugs, tweaks, patches, etc. Then in mid-2007 jump in the game and build yourself a new computer. If your 478 is doing what you want it to do then stay still, wait, read, and research and, as I said, then make your move.
see the thing is i dont really care too much about new chips and all that other crap. i do not live for the hype. i dont game with my pc. i only use it for web browsing thats really it. but i would just like to build myself a pc. im not spending thousands on a computer that i barely wont use.
i have a pentium 4 1.6 and i want to replace it cause its a dell 4400 and its old and from 2003 and i just want to build my own pc.
Ok,Now you do realize you will be needing a new case also,I'll provide you with a couple links.When you pick out your case stay away from the ones that have the power supply included...those psu's are usually junk.Are you in the U.S.?

i cant find a case i like lol im looking for something with the lcd on the front with usb and firewire ports on the front. and something that i can put neon lights in no luck.
