my 60gb ipod seems to have completely frozen up today. i accidentally left it on for a few hours (which i wouldnt think would actually hurt it), and when i went to turn it off, it had stopped in the middle of a song and none of the controls are working. it wont do anything. i cant switch songs, or play, or turn it off. i tried plugging it in to my computer to see if that might reset it or something, but my computer didnt even recognise that i had plugged anything in.
has anyone else ever had something like this happen, or has my ipod just died. i have only had it 5 months.

Try resetting it by holding Menu and the Center button. That should have you on your way.

I had the same problem I just disconnected it from my computer and waited for the battery to die and then I recharged it and it fixed my problem.
