crossover cable

    how do I make my laptop and desktop communicate using the cross overcable, like what settings do I need, both use WinXP Pro, I have a hub if it makes it easier, eitgher way works, I just need to transfer 30 gigs of info.

    You need to cross over pins 1 to 3 and 2 to 6
    1-3
    2-6
    3-1
    6-2
    1&2 are TX and 3&6 are RX
    Other pins in the RJ45 are not used for ethernet connections.

    yea i have the cable made and tested it at the college and stuff, but how do i actually go about making my computers reconize that i want them to connect with each other and transfer data

    Easiest way is to just go to my computer and right click your c drive etc... and then select share drive or folder.
    Then on next pc use the my network places to navigate to the other drives or folder and either copy to or from the folder.

    ok, so i don't need any special tcp/ip setting just connect the cable and go to my network places yada yada and should be good?

    No problem.
    It saves you messing around with ftp servers etc...
