I just bought a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 256MB DDR PCI Vid Card and it won't work. I took the tower apart, put it in the PCI slots (White Slots) Snapped it in etc. When I plug my monitor cable to the back of it, it just sits there like its in Standby mode or something. The Light on my monitor just flashes, like its not connected. I have no idea why this is happening. And its frustrating because I ordered this card last week, and they gave me the wrong one. So I waited and finally got it today and now it doesnt work. Any Ideas???? PS Its not the monitor cable because it works in the Integrated Vid Card that came with the comp.
First, get back into the BIOS. There should be an option to disable the onboard video...as well as the shared memory. Make sure your card is in the first (top) PCI slot. Start the system in Safe Mode, and uninstall the previous drivers. Reboot, then install the drivers for the card. Good luck.
I went in to BIOS and changed the Vid thing from Integrated to PCI. It loads up, but when it gets to my desktop the screen is just black. I can hear it starting up, but can't see it.
I got it. The only problem is now when I restart the computer, a little thing in the bottom right corner comes up and says "Found New Hardware" I went through the steps and it says its installed properly.
