I'm unfamiliar with this site, so I hope I'm posting in an appopriate place!

I have transfered all my old Umatic camera masters onto DVD but want the footage on Hard Drive as a backup and to easily import to an editing program. There's about 50 hours.

I've just today loaded a trial version of DVD X Platinum (2.1.0.43), but the moderator of the forum on this program says it's not a genuine product as it's no longer legally available. It didn't seem to do what I wanted anyway.

Can anyone help me by suggesting the most suitable software (legal) to make best quality (no compression) backup of my DVDs onto my hard drive?

    Thanks in eager anticipation.

    Peter

PS I've been told that 1 Click DVD Copy may be ideal, but no doubt there are others

The free DVD Shrink is better than 1Click, plus Shrink has some editing abilities as well. It's easy to use. As long as your DVD files are DVD compliant, they will work with Shrink. Shrink can either create ISO images or a Hard Disk File with the recorded files. Once the app is loaded there are links to online guides under Help. One source for a quick start guide is http://www.dvdshrink.info . Any of the transcoders that can record to the hard drive will do what you want, as long as the files are compliant (IFO, BUP, and VOB in a Video_TS folder).

If you already have them on DVD then they are already the correct size all you need is to rip them and then you can edit with whatever program you want. Just use DVDDecrypter which is free and rip to your HDD in file mode, which will give you DVD compliant files. Available here.
