playing large avi files

    i have downloaded some of the Lost tv series in AVI format.I have copied them on to a disk .I can watch AVI format on my portable dvd player,however it wont play some of the larger files (699mb).I amreally new to this,can anyone help?

    The 350MB episodes would be ~640x352 or so. The 700MB HR ones would be 960x540 or so. The chipset in your player like most can probably only handle upto 720x576. 960x540 is way overkill for a portable screen anyway, as is 5.1AC3.

    Is there anyway that i can make these eposodes smaller so that they will play on my portable dvd player?

    Sure. Just re-encode at a lower resolution.
