Hopefully this is close to being in the right section and that someone might be able to shed some light on my plight.

I haven't been able to back up anything in over a month. Here's the rundown. I have a Sony DRU-710A DVD burner. Firmware is up to date. I'm in DMA mode. All my ASPI is good and updated. I'm running a little high on memory usage but nothing that has stopped me burning before. With that said, I still can't back anything up after fixing all that.

I'm told I am using crap for media. Memorex 16x DVD-Rs. But my problem is this, my burner will NOT read anything but those poop discs. It'll read and identify them in Nero InfoTool even though they won't burn. Everything else just spins and makes a grinding type clicking sound. Over and over. I've tried (other than the Memorex) Fujifilm 8x DVD+R and DVD+R Video which worked perfectly only a month ago. And recently I have tried the Verbatim 16x DVD+R but to no avail.

Does anyone have a answer, solution or cause for this ridiculousness?

I have that drive you need to use Verbatum, tiyo yuden or maxell +R. Make sure your running firmware BYX5 is the latest. If your drive will not burn to those 3 brands +R your drive has gone bad. I just bought the DRU820A it is a rebaged BenQ burnning verbatum 16X+R that's right 16X disk quality tests look better than burning 8X on my sony 710A. I picked up the new sony drive at walmart for 70Bucks. I have burned Maxell -R disks on the DRU710A just fine too. The disk quality test for -R media suck on the DRU710A.

    Good Luck

I have the same burner DRU 710A (a rebadged SOHW 1633S) and so far it has never let me down. I've been ripping and burning since November 2004 and it still burns flawlessly up-to-date.

All I could think of is maybe it's the media and or perhaps you have got other applications/programs that conflict one another. Therefore, you're getting burn errors. I use nothing but genuine Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim "Advanced Azo" and Hitachi Maxell "Made In Japan" only.

Out of curiosity, what applications/tools did you used to burn? If it's Nero, then can you provide the log. Just remember to "EDIT or DELETE" your Nero serial in prior to post back here.

    @ Alkohol

I use shrink/nero as well as fab. I have a log but all it's going to say is that it doesn't like my media which I know and that I am using too many resources. but nothing about why it'll only recognize the memorexes but not burn which seems to be my main concern/issue. I am not using any out of the ordinary apps and nothing that I haven't used in the past and have burned successfully. I don't know. Maybe you'll see an answer in there.
