I added a seagate 120 to my computer and made it the boot drive. later I formatted the old 40gb and ended up removing it to make way for the 200 maxtor I picked up(another thread). the maxtor is still not in but I am having numerous crashes and lockups. If I use either dvd drive for any reason any program its fine till you try to shut the program down and it just hangs. been fighting it for a few days I think I'm going to have to format it and start fresh, I tried to put in my os to do a repair but its a oem reinstall disk has no repair on it. Now my question: I have an other version of xp pro will it repair this xp pro. Its not totally legit. I am still waiting for a response from shuttle on flashing my bios with a cd instead of floppy, can this be done? I tried to put the 200 in with xp pro sp2 but the bios still showed it as 136gb on startup so i shutdown and unhooked it. I'm glad I got some dvdrw's if I have to save stuff but not sure what all is corrupted.
    anyone got an idea

put your bent copy of xp pro in ,boot from cd, at the screen choose r to use the recovery console
if you pick the right windows [normally 1] and it lets you past the admin [normally just press enter]
then it will run the repair
to do this type chkdsk /r at the dos prompt
