I'm new here so forgive me if any of my questions are obviously stupid. But i'm trying to make backup copies of some DVD's and i'm using DVD Shrink to compress them. Whenever I get to the burn process I get the, "Disc-at-Once" error. I am unfortunetly using MEMOREX 16X DVD-R's. My DVD-R/RW burner is a NEC ND-2150A. The firmware for it is I believe 2.0T I've tried burning with NERO 7 (latest version?) and it has the same error. I've tried ImgBurn but it says something about cannot start (or find) Medium? I've tried burning at 16X, 8X, 1X, and none seem to work, i always get an error. If anyone has an ideas i'm all ears, or eyes. I'd greatly appreciate it.
@CodyH Welcome to aD! First check and make sure your firmware is up to date. In ImgBurn go to Tools>Drive>Check for Firmware Updates. It will show you your current version then take you to take you the firmware page for your drive. See if there is a later version. I think this is your drive: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces Also check and make sure you are in DMA mode - here's a guide: http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/231/dmaissues Try that and let us know how it goes!
Thanks for your reply, i'll try what you said. I am, however, a little reluctant to try the firmware updates with all the warnings they have for it. But I went ahead and download the 2.04 Firmware update for my drive but don't know how to install it? There are no instuctions or anything. I'll let you know how it goes
What version do you currently have? You just need to make sure you use the right one. The firmware may take care of the problem - this helps your drive with the read & write strategies of media esp. the newer stiff like 16x.
I have firmware 2.0T I don't know how to install the 2.04 i just got. Or even if that's the right one. Here's my drive: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1837
It game with the GATEWAY 550GR PC. I already went to their website and updated my driver from there, which updated it to 2.0T And still no luck. I'm confused on how these Firmwares are installed.
I'm thinking 2.18 would be your version - just looking at this: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=121021 Seems 2.0T is one of the original versions from 2004. The download in the link you list has the 2.18 - when you download it should have a readme text that will help explain the install. Since your drive does have older firmware 16x media can give it a problem. It doesn't really know what to do with it - reason imgburn give the message no medium present. *x media may be better for your drive.
This is all the read me file said: NEC ND-2510A 2.18 RPC1 and Rip Speed Firmware Included files README.TXT This file NEC2X00A.EXE ND-2xx0A series DOS Flasher 2510ORIG.BIN Original binary as supplied 2510FAST.BIN 2100@2500 and Rip Lock Patches 2510RPC1.BIN RPC1, 2100@2500 and Rip Lock Patches 2100@2500 allows the firmware to work on a 2100A drive if you have one. Okay NEC's site has detailed (more involved than usual) on how to update: http://www.de.nec.de/softwareoverview2.php/id/1333 This may or may not work since you are using a drive from a pc package. Also the media listed in this release only goes up to 8x media - no 16x. Now if you want you can try a modified one from Liggy & Dees -205D (has new 7-2-06 next to it) Easier to install and if your drive is not recognized will not intall/flash. No 16x media codes listed. For this one all you do is run the .exe file. editted to add: oops here's the link for the 2nd one: http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/
thanks, will try and see what happens. got to do some dishes in the meanwhile i'll let u kno how it goes. again, thanks for taking the time to help!
Not a problem! Dishes? Isn't that what paper plates are for :0) Keep us posted! Any questions too post back.
Paper plates, ha, i wish! lol. Although good idea for next time. Well the second URL was much easier, and their download and installation was a piece of cake. I made it up to FIRMWARE 2.06! But that's as far as i got. Installation for version 2.15,2.16,2.17, and 2.18 do not unzip or anything. Even with version 2.06 it does not dectect the 16X DVD-R's and I get the same "medium" error message. Maybe I should just go back and get 8X and save myself the trouble. I'd just hate to give up now, I came so far! And i've got 50 New DVD-R's just sitting here, it's a shame, lol.
Dang! If this media id is not in the firmware then the drive will use a generic write strategy - this sometimes works depending on the media and drive. On those Memorex sounds like it's not working Well check and make sure you are in DMA mode in the link above. When you we able to burn before what media and rated speed was it? Did anything else change since you were last able to burn? It may be best to to exchange those Memorex for some 8x Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji, Sony or Maxell's. You can also post the last Nero failed log if you like to see if something else may be amiss. Just be sure to edit out the serial # - they usually begin w/ 1A, 1C, 5C. The log can be found at: program files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.txt The logs are usually separated by something like this: =====***Nero API Burning History***=====
I checked the DMA mode and everything there checks out. My friend let me borrow some IMATION 8X DVD-R dics and they worked perfectly. I have another friend who has an HP newer laptop computer and I told him to try my MEMOREX 16X DVD-R's and they worked great on his laptop. So he's willing to buy them from me for what I paid. I guess that works out if i can't get them to work on my PC. @CodyH I am glad to hear the 8x Imation worked for you. Imation doesn't always use the best manufacturers so I would suggest trying some of the other media I suggested above when you buy some. Look for 8x. . Now onto your log Here's some suggestions. Go down a version in Nero to 6.6.0.18 - this version will autoburn w/ Shrink. Uninstall the current version then run the clean and reinstall package 1 & 2 (package 2 contains Nero Vision & Recode) Here's some links: http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/General_CleanTool.html http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe Turn dma back on for the cd drive - your 'current transer mode' should say 'Ultra DMA Mode' with the mode #. Looks likde the current tranfer mode for this drive says 'pio mode only'. Use the guide in the link above. Good amount of ram but 74% is in use. No multitasking and shut down any unnesscary processes.
I think i've come to a point where the risks are grater than the rewards, the DMA thing requires unistalling drivers and such, and the guide is OK, but it doesn't tell you what to do after you uninstall them, it leaves you in a pit, and I don't have the ladder to get out! (good metaphore huh? lol) I'll get some MAXELL 8X DVD-R's and hopefully this problem will be solved. I sure did learn alot though about Drivers, Firmware, Nero, DVD Shrink, and a whole bunch of other things over the past few days! Thank you for all your help I appreciate you taking the time to reply, cause I believe you were the only one who did. Thank you.
You're very welcome! Good metaphor too The dma isn't that bad - when you uninstall the driver you then just reboot and let windows do it's thing. You would do this for your primary ide - oddly your hard drive is set to the secondary ide channel. Normally it the other way around. For the Maxell look for made in Japan - better. Happy Burning!!
