the bios detcts the hd so does not use jumpers on motherboard for that. those jumpers are for setting cpu speed. what is the hd itself jumpered as as in master, slave or cable select? is the hd a western digital?

& that is why that motherboard doesn't see the drive. it is a wd issue as nobody else has that problem if hd is master & by itself. looking at the back of the drive, put the jumper horizontally across the top left & middle pins & hd will be seen. i have a 1.6gig wd hd in my hand jumpered like that & is seen on customer's socket 7 board.

so what you are saying is that if i put the hard drive as a master and then there is another hd as slave it will be recognised is that right ?

yes & it doesn't have to be a hd to be a slave, can be a rom drive.
