I'm trying to install xp codec pack 1.3.4

Keep showing this error everytime I restart the computer

C:/WINDOWS/system32/ac3filter.cpl can't be updated reboot your pc before install to avoid this problem.

ABORT,RETRY, IGNORE are the choices.I tried all there and it keep showing those errors.

A little bit of xp hacking..I feel right at home..

Try this..rename the file, go look in the dll-hell of the windows system 32 folder ..make a copy of the offending file and stick it on the desktop(cut'n'paste)..then make sure there is nothing like media player or win cinema manager running and rename the one in the system32 folder...then try again..you might have to change it's attributes from dos..if you do just make it R-W (chattrib.r.w) I think..something like that..it's late and I'm a bit rusty with dos..then it should be updatable/overwritable and should solve the problem

Can't you just uncheck AC3Filter in the installer since you already have it installed? Personally I would suggest just avoiding codec packs altogether.
