I have a Compaq Presario sr1430nx. I want to upgrade the video card. Currently I have a Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family which came with the system. Could you guys give me some recommendations. I'm looking to spend about $200. I do a lot of gaming and dvd editing.

Oh I see now. It's integrated. If I get a new MB, I might as well upgrade the processor. That's exactly what I'm going to do. Thanks.

This tech guy at CompUSA, was trying to convince me that PCI video cards are just as good as AGP video cards. Is there any truth to this? My motherboard doesn't have an AGP slot or a PCI-express slot.

the guys at compusa as well as any other store dont know what they're talking about. PCI is much worse than AGP and PCI express is much better than AGP. Integrated cards are worse than PCI and pretty much useless for gaming. You should probaly get a new mobo, graphics card, and processor and possibley ram. Id say the best graphics card withen your $200 price range is the 7600 gt. my I ask what processor you have now?

pci cards run at 33mhz, agp runs at most 8x cpu bus speed. pci/e is same same as agp but has a higher transfer speed.

Well, just for the time being, is there a high end PCI video card that will compensate until I'm able to buy a newer system that have AGP OR PCI-express slots?

Wow... new oxymoron... high end PCI card! lol!

Ok, PCI isn't just a weaker video card solution. It is also very outdated. AGP is fine if you have a little more money for the higher end cards or you want something in the Radeon 9XXX series or the GeForce FX5XXX series though.

I recommend PCI Express x16 though if you are on a budget. That's where you can get a cheap but powerful card.

Here's a good PCIe x16 card for you.

Or if you have the budget... this'll do better.

That's why you should splurge for a PCIe mobo. :)

If I get a new Mobo, then it only makes sense to get a new CPU, maybe a new power supply. I figure that will set me back about a $1000. I'd be better off buying a new desktop.

new cpu, mb & psu won't cost $1000 unless top of the line stuff. just get a new motherboard that fits your case & videocard. update cpu later as still good.

You guys are right. I'm gonna go ahead and rebuid my Compaq Presario sr1430nx. I already upgraded my cpu to a Pentuim 4 650 3.4ghz. It's fast, but not as fast as my buddy's Pentium D 960. Wow his system is so powerful, it's scary. I can feel the heat blowing out the case! Anyway I got a $1000 bugdet and this is my first rebuild, but I'm excited, so I'll need some guidance. I need help picking a good mobo that will fit in my case and also I want to stick with Intel. I heard a some good things about AMD, but I'm just not ready to crossover. So if you guys were in my shoes with a $1000 budget, how would you rebuild this system? I want it to as fast as my budget will allow. I'm a gamer but also do a lot of video editing and encoding.

Great, they have that mobo at Compusa. So will go out and buy it and a Pci/e video card that was recommended. Is that it? I still have a got close to $800 left over. Might as well splurge. I also need to double check the chipset, but I believe it's 915g.
