I found the thread "Can anyone help me regarding Sony DCR HC14E please?" from 2004. Since as a newbie I can't reply there, I'll start a new one.

With the Sony DCR-HC14E I've spent hours to try and get the video on cd.
First of all the manual says 'set USB stream ON', but it doesn't say whether or not I have to 'exit' after that, or simply leave it like that.
Then it says 'for touch panel models, select BURN VCD on FN', but there's no such thing (burn vcd) to be found ANYWHERE.

Can anyone recommend how to get the footage on pc or cd? (I'm not a computer wiz, so I hope I can follow the advice) - thanks.

this confused me when i first saw thsi cam

USB streamingis ONLY for pics, not video. migth also work for web cam idk

you need a fire wire card, a fire wire cable, and Windows mmovie maker can capture it, although getting something more expensive such as Adobe Premier Pro or Ulead Movie studio will let you capture in HD, as well as giving a plethora of options. trust me, you will soon learn to hate the unflexibilty of WMM

    hope this helps

    Thanks Tim,
A Firewire card is on the way; I think it will work out ok.
