I have a Maxtor one (although they have been bought out be Seagate) and I've never had any problems with it.

honestly not sure, I've had it for at least two years now. It came free with a 160GB drive I bought. I know that it is a ATA133, but thats about it. As long as you buy a decent name brand device you should be fine. There are cheaper no name brand ones, but if I were you I'd pay the extra ten bucks or whatever and go with a good popular brand, and you should have no problems.
