Hi there. I was just reinstalling windows afte seveal spyware had eneteed my computer. I backed up all my files to a USB 30gb Hard disk. Now i reinstalled XP and when the windows setup petitions i deleted all petitions not knowing my 30gb hitachi laptop dive was still connected. FUCKKKKK And i must have deleted the petition. when i loaded XP it said the dive needed to be fomatted and i couldnt understand were all my files went. Then i remembered i left the drive plugged in and i think i deleted the petition on that dive. I have not formatted the drive yet but is there anyway i can save some of the data as it has precious pictures of my canine(DOG) that i had to put down 3 months ago and these are the only pictues I have of my dear friend. Please there must be a way of retieving the data??? Or is it lost?? Thanks in advance
If I remember correctly, you can't remove partitions from external drives when not in the operating system because the USB drivers aren't loaded to access the drive to do so. Have you tried turning it off and back on and reconnecting it a few times? If you have, I'd still be surprised if you'd managed to delete the partition. What you could try is turning off the PC, and plugging it in directly to the computer (putting it somewhere or holding it obviously, don't leave it hanging) and see if it's recognised. If not, you may well have deleted the partition. The mind boggles. my only other suggestion is trying this: http://www.acronis.com/promo/ADD/di...ns|545283497&gclid=CLXLqsboqYUCFRNLEgodrSvH0g Acronis make the partition manager I used to set up Linux and multiple RAID partitions. That works great, so that should too. It's worth a try, data recovery will be ten times that figure.
thanks i will give it a try really thanks for you help. i am just quite upset as my beloved dog was on thee and all his photo's are gone. Did it wok fo you when you did it?
is there anything else i can try aswell i dont want to stuff with it and then i can retrieve it back then i will eally be upset.
It didn't work turning it on and off? You won't mess it up by plugging it into your desktop, as long as the system is fully powered off at the socket first and you connect things up right. If it doesn't appear. turn off then disconnect and then ask the data recovery folks, or use that partition software. You won't wreck it any more by doing this.
nah it didnt wok turning it on and off or anything. I just played with acronis disk director suite and i noticed that anothe problem has been solved and i know have full access the my 250GB hard disk. Before i could only use 166 gb because of XP and this program worked out my petitions and gave me the full amount of space on the drive. AWESOME. No what i dont undertsand is that my potable USB laptop drive is reading as primary and only a small amount of available space is there to check fo petitions SEE PIC
A primary partition is one that can be used to boot from, it's the kind of standard option to use. It's clear to see that a laptop drive would have had a primary partition as that would need to boot an operating system. The sense of primary there doesn't mean it's trying to act as your main hard disk. My drives appear with some unallocated space at the end as well, it's a requirement to man partition usage, a sort of "buffer space". It may not be visible on the 250 because it's just so big. I assume you've previously split your 250GB into two partitions for it to be like that? Thing that's worrying me is that it comes up as FS:None and has a red X in the corner. That tends to suggest it's not been formatted.
yes i didnt want to format it as ive only deleted the petitions and didnt want to format it to make it wose or something. any recomendations because the only thing i can test for deleted petitions is the small bit of fee space at the end of the laptop 30gb drive
No you mustn't format it, or you will lose the data for sure. If ir doesn't work otherwise, then you may only have data recovery, but it's expensive.
