About a week ago or whenever labor day or memorial day or whatever it was I got a nice viewsonic 19" widescreen lcd for ~$250 after rebates. Its got 8ms response rate which is good for gaming, but you said you dont play. It's reccomened resolution is something like 1440x900. It has integrated speakers which aren't that great, but that doesnt matter to me cause I got a 5.1 setup. ViewSonic is a reputable brand from what I've been told, and for $250 I couldnt pass it up. Here you go, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824116373

I got mine from circuit city, only had 1 dead pixel (in the bottom right corner thank god). I personally don't buy from newegg because they have a wharehouse here in Memphis so I have to pay tax. You may want to check out www.zipzoomfly.com if you have a similar problem. In my opinion it is a great monitor, and widescreen for your movies would be nice.

EDIT: I just realized this is the same monitor as in boxwrench's post. I wish I had only paid $168 for mine :(
