^^^That's what started my downhill battle with Nero. Don't get me wrong, 90% of the time it did what I asked, and I was happy. But one day I got that error, and I have been frustrated ever since. One of my MANY google searches led me here, and I have tried many of the fixes in this 20+ page thread here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/20/105308 I'll try to be brief: I used Nero Vision 3.0.1.14, as I said, 90% of the time with success. I use it to burn tv shows onto DVD for my personal re-viewing. Most of the time I try to burn in LP to fit approx 4 hours onto 1 DVD [for me that's still pretty clear but doubles my DVD storage]. You still with me? Ok, then 1 day, I get the dreaded '128' exception error, then I get it again, and now I've got a 'few' coasters, and the odd successful burn in between, but I'm getting these errors more and more. Now, not being a computer guru as many of you are [and thank God for you], I come here, to find what I hope will be a simple solution. But I do know enough about computers to know that usually, what should be a simple solution is not so. Well, I finally bite the bullet and do most of the suggested fixes in that thread I linked above, here's what I've done: uninstalled all Easy CD Creator program uninstalled DivX [or was it DviX?] installed ffdshow installed Xvid and then because I thought it may be best, uninstalled Nero altogether and re-installed the trial version of Nero 7 Ultra [did I just hear you groan? yes, I think that was my mistake too]. So, I attempt a burn, but this time, because it was a very common suggestion in that same thread, I decided to burn to my hard drive [I have over 30 gb free], fine, the new Nero Vision 4.5.1.15 did do that. Simple enough, after 5 hours or so, I try to burn my Video TS files, first with Nero Burning Rom 7.2.0.3: I get an error that says: unexpected file format. Strike one. Then I try to burn with Nero Express: "There is not enough space to burn this compilation to disc" Strike two, and of COURSE there's not enough room, because I'm trying to burn 4 hours onto a 2 hour disc, which now I have this sinking feeling that what I used to do so easily with my old Nero, has now become an impossibility. I tried Nero Vision 4.5.1.15, of course, it's too big for the disc as well. I try DVDSanta, same thing, because it has been transcoded as 4 hours, not 2. So, where do I go from here. I have read and googled, and I just want to be able to do what I used to with relative ease. Is there an easy answer? I would very much appreciate any help any of you can give. Thank you in advance.

You know, if you could figure out what happened on that "1 day" you might solve a lot of problems in this forum. What might cause it to just quit working one day--a windows update, some new software loaded on your computer, an update to some other software, a codec change, a corrupted file, a firmware update, a file you downloaded, or a physical change in your computer? Can you add these files one at a time and keep track of the available space? Are you watching the burn settings to see if they change? Hold your mouse over the videos on the titles page to see the settings. Post your Nero Log by going to C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory.log
Saltgrass, thank you for your time, it's appreciated. And yes, if I could pinpoint that 'one day', I would, but it was too long ago now, and many hours reading to fix the problem later. My hub uses the computer for his hobby of photography, and I for d'ling tv shows I've missed or want for future viewing, many things change on a daily basis on this computer. I could guess, but it likely wouldn't be accurate. As for this 1 test burn, again, I've a feeling I could try 1 small change at a time, and there's many changes I could make. To try to pinpoint each could take me hours I just don't have. I've already wasted more hours than I care to admit just trying to analyze this 'one day' problem! LOL I guess what I'm asking is, what should I change on my computer [ie I'm thinking of uninstalling the new Nero 7 Ultra and going to the last known stable version of Nero which from this forum looks to be version 7.0.8.2]. I just want to get back to a point where 'most' of my avi/encode burns in Nero turn out using LP status [4 hrs or so per dvd]. Thank you again for your help/suggestions.
We need more info--post the log and any comments about how you got the files and how they are encoded and whatever else you can think of. When you get ready to burn, how much of the DVD is being used according to the tape on the bottom?

Nero API version: 7.2.0.3 and 7.2.0.3b These latest versions of Nero are full of bugs, I recommend you uninstall, run this clean tool http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html and then install 7.0.8.2 a more stable version from here http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845 BTW you posted your log as I was typing, also the full log is required
Gwendolin, thank you for the advice, I'm thinking that may be the quickest way to try to get to a point where I don't cringe EVERY time I open Nero. And that log that I posted is all that I got. :\
All I can see is some type of exception in a Media Converter--whatever routine that is. Your version of NeroVision did have a problem with any files not encoded at 29.97 fps or 25 fps. But I think the one just before it did also. You might try exporting the files with NeroVision first, and then putting them back in just like you did the .avis. That way, you could see if one of the files was causing a problem and you would have them in DVD ready format. Are you recording these from a TV tuner card? What type of card and have you updated it recently?
Saltgrass, I d/l these avi files, not from my own recordings. I am thinking you're on the right track with the 'media converter' thing, I looked through another error log I had, and it was the same type of thing. At this point, I'm uninstalling Nero 7 Ultra as Gwendolyn suggested and will be reinstalling the more recent stable version. Hopefully that will do the trick. So far, so good! The first burn I tried which had originally failed in both Nero Vision 3.0.1.14 and 4.5.0.15, was successful with NV 4.1.0.15 which comes with Nero 7.0.8.12. I thank you SO much Gwendolin and Saltgrass for your help and recommendations. I'll be trying another burn today [one that was also previously unsuccessful]. I really do think in this situation it was my codecs. I noticed on this run both audio and video fddshow codecs came up during the burn process. Now, I do have to say, that the burn was successful, but on one of the videos, the audio and video are slightly out of sync. Is there a possibility you think you may have an easy fix?
Sorry, I should have asked what settings to use in NeroVision, could that help? I realize there are a few a/v sync problems out there, but I'd like to make sure I'm giving these burns the best possible try before I worry about TMPGEnc etc.
If you are still having problems with NeroVision, the version is the same in both of the Nero 7 versions you are trying. I would think, because of that, your problem would remain. If you want, we can try replacing a file in your current version to see if it helps, or you can wait a few days until a newer version of Nero 7 comes out. If you want to try the file, private message me your e-mail address and I will send it to you. Or you could go back to Nero 7 v7.0.1.4.
Saltgrass, thank you so very much for your offer, I really appreciate that. But, I don't think it will be necessary. The only setting I changed in my second burn attempt with NV4.1.0.15 was to change the encoding from 1 pass to high quality [2 pass]. AND, the result was, a very successful burn, no a/v sync problems at all. Keeping in mind, this was on the exact same avi's that I could not get to burn previously. So it looks like the changes I made thanks to your help here and in that old thread I linked previously, worked. As I said, in my case I think it was codecs, and perhaps conflicting software. Hopefully outlining the changes I made in this thread will help someone else with the same problems. Thanks again to Saltgrass, Gwendolin and the posters in the older thread for your assistance.

Sorry, I did want to come back and correct the error I made when stating what Nero version I had used, I realized it later on in the day that it is Nero 7.0.8.2 [not .12] that is working for me. Nero Vision 4.1.0.15 comes with that version. I believe the 'title' of the Nero 7.0.8.2 is 'ultra edition'. Thank you again for all those who so kindly helped out. I'll be trying another burn in the next day or 2 and hopefully it will continue with success.
I just wanted to say that I've had nothing but success, many burns later, with different compilations big and small, avi and wmv, all successful! Thank you again for all your help in this thread and on these forums.
