Can PS3 play video files?

I have read some items about PS3 being able to store movies and MP3s on its HD. Do this mean it might be possible to load AVIs and other video files to the drive (ie. from a memory stick) and play them on your TV using the PS3? Will it be possible to load codecs?

But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

if it has linux then it should be limitless when it comes to playing videos, THE BEAUTY OF LINUX

full 1080p hd videos, and if ur tv cant take it it will downscale for you.

awesome, my girlfriend is sadly moving to lacrosse so when i visit her im taking a trip into rochester. i love that town.

oh yes cuz thats so what i would call you. the mary sounds great, and the 360 will be more entertaining with it :P
