I just recently bought a new HP desktop media center pc....basically I have been using dvddecryper and shrink for a couple years and haven't faced too many problems...my problem is when i first started using decrypter on this computer it would take about 5 minutes to burn a copy, but now it takes close to an hour!! I haven't tweaked the settings and have no idea why my dvd writer/E: drive is performing so slowly....I have an F: drive that will copy dvd's from shrink, but won't write/burn the movies on decrypter. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it. Here is the I/O error I'm getting I/O Error! Easier to help all in one thread Let's check and make sure you are in DMA mode and not PIO mode. Here's a guide: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038 Now what brand of media are you using? Burn speed? You can also get a log from decrypter - just press the L key when opened. That could also be useful. Bur we can start with the above 1st.
Thanks for your reply....I use TDK 16X DVD-R DVD's and have for about the past year or so without any problems. I made sure that my drive was in DMA mode and even uninstalled/reinstalled my writer. I am still having the same problems with speed. Any more suggestions? thanks again.
The error Decrypter is giving you is saying your drive doesn't like the media - the TDK's. TDK uses different manufacturers so the previous TDK's you used could have been made by a different manufacturer that was more compatible with your drive. The 16x are made by TDK themselves and are not always the best. Better to try would be Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji, Sony or Maxell. Your F drive - is that also a DVD burner? What's the make and model of it? When encoding and burning no multi tasking and shut down any unnessecary processes. Make sure you are getting airflow - no fans covered up etc. Do a system defrag and disc cleanup. These may help with the speed/heat issue. Did both your drives come with the HP?
hey thanks again, the F: drive is not also a burner...i guess it can copy the dvd's but it can't burn them...the only option through decrypert is the E: drive. My media might not be very good, but i noticed my E: drive was also slower when using dvd shrink as well. Both drives did come with my HP. the F: drive just says DVD-ROM on the outside, while the E: drive says Lightscribe DVD SuperMulti Drive/CD Writer. I'll do a system defrag and disc cleanup to see if that might be the problem. Thanks again for your help.
If you have any of the quality settings like deep analysis in shrink - this will take longer. Try the suggestions above and see how it goes. If you're still having speed/hit issues when using Decrypter press the L key to for a log. Post that log and we can take a look.

That is a long time - under 1x. I can't tell from this log - but I stilling thinking DMA mode. Check all your drives: 'current transfer mode' should be set to 'ultra dma mode and the #' Just saying 'dma if available' in transfer mode doesn;t always mean that the mode it's using. I also notice have this drive Drive D:\ (FAT32) May not be coming into play here though - you're burning files from the c drive. Anything change since the speed issue? The dvd's coming out hot is probably because of the time taking to burn them.
