DVD ROM / CD Writer Problem

    Hello All,

    I have an LG DVD ROM / CD Writer (HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8161B) that worked perfectly about a week ago. I did a System Mechanic Total PC Care cleanup and now it will only read CDs.

    1) I know for a fact the drive is not borked.
    2) I have uninstalled, restarted, re-installed the drive.
    3) This is not a firmware issue.

    Any ideas on how to correct this situation?

    Wow, i have a simular problem mine will only read dvd's. Ive updated the firmware,reinstalled the drive but still wont play cd's

    Hi, I'm sorry to post another issue in this thread. I'm also having problems with my DVD drive. My drive is unable to play or even recognize DVDs at all, CDs and software work fine though.

    Please, does anyone know what could be wrong? I have restored my system several times already. DVDs played fine up until a month ago...
