Hello. New to burning. Nero doesn't work at all so tried ImgBurn and am having no joy. Can you please direct me to what my problem might be? I have created an ISO image using DVDDecrypter. I am now trying to burn that image to a dual layer disc. I will appreciate any help you can give me. Thx. (Log follows...) I 21:36:48 ImgBurn Version 1.3.0.0 started! Try updating the firmware on your burner, it is not recognizing the media and does not like it. Current is GD30 for this burner http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1978 See if it works after the fw update, this may be why you are having problems with Nero. Also you may want to rethink the media, CMC Mag in single layer is not a good media, in DL even worse. Try some Verbatim DL's they are the best.
Arniebear is right..... I have same burner (philips 8631) and my firmware is the GD30 and I always have great results. and stay away from those CMC MAG disks. Here is a media guide for you: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm and use your Nero InfoTool to find out the manufacturer ID of your disk. Basic rule to live by: [bold]Made In Japan (MIJ) disks are the better ones.[/bold] there are always exceptions to rules and the exception to this one is Verbatim - Made In Taiwan - are top quality disks - as Arniebear pointed out. I use Taiyo Yuden and have great burns every time: 99.80% quality score! Arniebear.... I'm bragging again-----
notice that I keep using the same pixs....... I did some other tests with the same disks for different DVD movies and still come to the 99.80-97.50% range. Good enough!
Thx for the input. I have tried to flash the drive to GD30, but I get a failure message saying this model is not supported. Any ideas on this? I appear to be stuck on CD21. I know other people who use Datawrite discs (what I'm using) with no problem. I'll try another medium (or more, more than likely). Now I guess I know why the dealer I use offers a sample pack of different ones. Thx, again.
I don't understand why you couldn't install the GD30 firmware..... when I bought my computer it came with the CD21 firmware and it was easy to install the upgrade firmware to GD30. we have the same drive! Why was mine easy to install and yours comes with an error message of the drive being not supported to this firmware update? I got the GD30 firmware from the same webpage as you did so it should work. the only thing I suggest is to try downloading it again and reinstall. my Dell computer readily accepted this update firmware!
@IHoe Since this was a Dell, is the drive OEM and did you have to go with a Dell supported update, or were you allowed to use the rpc GD30? Sometimes those Dell drives are proprietary and won't accept any other fw.
The drive came with the Dell from Dell directly. Good idea to check with Dell. Someone in their support forum had the same problem. He resolved it by disabling a virtual DVD drive one of his digital media programs had emulated. I'll try that and let you know if that's the issue for me, as well. Thx, again.
@dublinguy It is always good to check with Dell as their computers can be proprietary, disabling the Virtual Drive may be a solution to your problems. Sometimes, those VD can cause problems I have seen this in Nero.
as I said...... Dell had the same firmware update and I got it from the Firmware page that was linked! the update was easy to do and I had no problems with it. my drive works great, too, as you know Arniebear...... just wondering why Dublinguy is having trouble doing the firmware update when I didn't have any problems what so ever. strange.
If the fw is the same as Dell then drive should recognize it, but as dublinguy stated he has a Virtual Drive, which can sometimes give problems. I just recovered from my Beta Vista trauma experience, so finally got my computer back together, am hoping that my own drives are working correctly, I need to find something to burn, lol
Success! Media not the problem. Eliminated virtual DVD drive -- no help. Disconnected the other ROM drive -- this allowed me to flash the DVD drive successfully. Afterward, got a clean dual layer burn. Cheers, everyone!
Glad to hear you got it to work, I hope this solves you problems and you have happy burning from now on
