I am using the little brothers of the mpeg-4 HD encoder and VC-1 encoder trying to compress some DVDs and I am getting horrible results, even worse (partially at least) than mpeg-2 at the same bitrate. Is there a big difference between VC-1 and WMV9 and mpeg-4 main profile and mpeg-4 High Profile? What I am trying to do is lower the resolution of the DVD and half the framerate in order to get the filesize down to about 1/4 to 1/3 the original. Well, I guess I can try out the VC-1 for myself thanks to the link you provided. Oh, and is it possible to get chapters into the encoded files? Thanks for your input.
