Hey guys, I have a custom built computer that I personally built. I built it a few years ago and don't remember the specific hardware I put in on a few pieces, like nic card, usb ports, motherboard, etc. Is there anyway I can backup a whole folder and transfer it back to the pc via cdrom when I get back after a total format and windows install? I figure I can get most drivers back via the internet when I get back but I wont beable to get on the net since my nic card will be driver less.

I guess the main question is, can I backup the whole driver folder and then put it back, then go to device manager and set the drivers back?

Not all drivers are located in the same folder. So the answer to your questions would be no.

When you install Windows it will install most "generic type" drivers for your system.

Can't you go into Device Manager now, before the format, and get the hardware specs?

Just keep the nic driver on a cd/usb drive, because you'll want to download updated drivers for the other components anyway once you get back online. Even that might not be needed, as Win XP is pretty good about picking up many of the most common nics without adding drivers. But for sure you want to get current ones for the rest.
