Anyone know why my machine could be doing this? Every time I go to burn a DVD nero reads it as a CD. I have been using nero for years now and consider myself at least an intermediate user, but have never seen this. I did some searching around, and yes I did use the search function searching for this. I found some things that were similar, but not quite the same.

    Nero 7, newest version
    win XP sp2 all updates
    sony DVD burner (RW)
office depot DVD-Rs (see if ever buy these stupid things again, had problems with the other spindle too, just not the same problem. I bought 2 spindles at once...just to clearify ;) )

Thank you very much for any help! :)

Nero 7.0.8.2 is the version you want. It can be downloaded here:

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845

Also I'm not sure what you mean when you say Nero recognizes your DVDs as CDs. Does Nero not allow you to choose DVD projects? Does Nero refuse to burn a DVD because it thinks there's a CD in the burner?

Start up DVD Decrypter. You can download it here if you don't have it:

    http://filehippo.com/download_dvd_decrypter/

Under the Mode menu set the mode to ISO Write.

If you try burning again with Nero and it is unsuccessful, post the last section of your Nero burn log. It is located in the path:

    Program Files->Nero->Nero7->Core->NeroHistory

Delete the serial number and any other personal identifying info before posting.
Place one of your blank DVDs in the drive.
Copy and post back to this thread the info in the column in right hand side window of DVD Decrypter. The top line in the column is the name of your burner.

If you're backing up DVDs, try outputing an ISO file from Shrink or whatever program you're using and try burning that with ImgBurn, DVD Decrypter, or Nero 7.0.8.2.

I'm having the same trouble. When I insert the DVD to have the files burned to it says that I've got a CD inserted. I don't know of any changes I have made.

    Any help? I use a
    PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K12RA 1.10 (ATA)
    Current Profile: DVD+R

    Thanks!

Are you using Nero Express or the Burning ROM. I find Nero Express does this for some reason sometimes, but Nero Burning ROM doesn't.

Yeah, I always use the burning ROM, I dont care for all the new fluff Nero keeps adding.

I think this actually may be a windows problem. Ive noticed even windows will recognize DVD-Rs as CDs.
(ya know, win xp will pop up that window asking what you would like to do)

Try uninstalling the drive(s) just as if you had a DMA problem. Should fix it.

    Dolphin2,

What's the easiest way to uninstall/reinstall it?

    Thanks.

    To uninstall a burner.

Right click on My Computer and choose Properties.
    Select Hardware tab.
    Click the Device Manager button.
Click the "+" beside DVD/CD-ROM drives to expand.
Right click on the device name and select Uninstall.
    Restart your computer.

    To reset DMA:

    In Device Manager:
Click the "+" beside IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
Right click on the channel you want to uninstall and select Uninstall.
    Restart the system.

Unless for some reason you have to use Nero, I wouldn't. DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn are both better burners imo than Nero anyway.

If your having trouble with Nero, try using DVD Decrypter or Imgburn to burn an ISO generated by DVD Shrink or Nero.
