Okay, I have read almost every user manual on the Nero website for Nero 6 Ultra Edition and still can't seem to figure this out. I have short 'mini' vidoes on DVDs my Sony camcorder records to. What do I use to make movies and then DVDs successfully? I am not entirely new to this, but after a year I still can't seem to figure it out. I have copied the small video clips to my hard drive, but when I get ready to make small movies out of the clips to put on 1 DVD, I don't know what application of Nero to use; there are lots of applications on here. I tied StartSmart and told it I wanted to make my own DVD, but when I got ready to select the files to add; they have names like Video_TS, VTS_01_0, VTS_01_1, etc. There are lots of these files for just one or two short clips. Some of them are duplicates or backups of the other files. * Which one do I select to make my movie? All of them? * How do I make multiple movies out of these clips without them all running together and making one 1 movie? (Exp: Birthday, Holiday, Vacation, etc.) I would like to label each little movie as to what it really is before I burn it / them to the DVD. Did I totally confuse everyone or did someone understand what I am trying to explain? Any help and/or suggestions would be appreciated. What is this 'Shrink' software I keep reading aabout on here? Thanks!
A movie consists of a bunch of files in a VIDEO_TS folder. Take a look at the file extensions and you will see three main types. The .ifo files contain the navigation InFOrmation that a DVD player or other reading device uses. This is what gives a DVD the ability to have menus, jump to chapters, use different languages, display subtitles and set parental controls to name just a few. The .bup files are the BackUP files. These are exact copies of the .ifo files. For every .ifo file you see you will also have a .bup file. These are required for standards compliant DVDs. DVDs need to be compliant if they are to play correctly. The .vob files are Video OBject files. These contain the actual video and audio that you see and hear when you play your video. These are what you should be clicking on when you try and add your clips into Nero. You may also see an AUDIO_TS folder in there somewhere. These are empty unless you are making an audio DVD. The program you want to use is NeroVision. Rather than using StartSmart to open it, Go to your "Programs" and find Nero, then find NeroVision. StartSmart will get you there though. You were on the right track when you selected Make DVD. Once you get it open, click the Add Video Files and then browse to your video's location. Click the VIDEO_TS folder and your list of files should appear. Click the VTS_01_1.VOB file and it should add it. Then click the VTS_01_2.VOB and add it and so on. You may have only one .vob file. If so just add it. When NeroVison completes the process of making your DVD, it will add all the required file types. If you take a look at the files on your finished DVD you will see all the .ifos and .bups added. Shrink is a small free program that is used primarily for removing the encryption and compressing commercial movie to fit on to a DVD-5. ( A single sided, single layer blank DVD.)
Thanks Fasfrank! That is exactly the detail of instruction someone like me needs. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks a BUNCH!!!
