Toshiba A10 Hard drive

    when i tried to reinstall windows and error came up saying hard drive not detected can i please have help what i need to do to repair it please

    does the bios see the hd?

    if the bios sees the harddrive then it needs an fdisk so the o/s can see it
    what windows were you trying to put on ?

    no sorry i got it wrong it says no hard drive i was putting in window xp home edition

    if not seen by the bios than hd is busted, ide cable popped out so reseat it or ide cable malfunctioned so replace it.

    the bios is not reading the drive it picksup the cd drive would i have to replace the motherboard or is there some way of repairing it

    buy a new hd. did that on a laptop i got from customer when 20gig hd died. replaced it with new 40gig hd.

    i put in another hard drive and it comes up the same no drive please help

    Check to make sure that the IDE channels are both enabled, and that the jumper on the new drive is set to master. Just a thought.

    is the new hd a western digital?

    yes it is a 40gig

    if western digital drive & no drive present as slave than don't jumper the drive as master as still won't be seen. put jumper parallel to circuit board close to ide connector & circuit board.
