ok here a new question i am looking to build a new pc and want to use an asus motherboard butam not sure which is the best one to use. so i was wandering if a few of you guys can give me some suggestions. im on a $500 budget i have pc 2700 and 2100 memory on hand that i want to use till i can get 3200 or 4400. I have a case with a 450 watt power supply dvd roms and a 40 gig hard drive. this hard drive is only temp. i plan on getting a 160 harddrive soon. all i need is the board, chip, and fan. i would like to use an atx board and not a microatx.
there is one more thing that i forgot to mention i would like to use the new hard drive connection the (SATA/RAID)not the ide.
SLI can run up some money on the motherboard, since it's to support dual video cards. it's just a question of how much gaming you want to do with that. What kind of fan did you want? one to cool down the processor?
yes then i do preffer an sli board cause i do plan on doing alot of gaming with this machine. what do you mean "What kind of fan did you want? one to cool down the processor" i thought it didt matter.
You don't really want SLi even if you are a gamer, but SLI boards are the best quality and have the best features. You can use something like an Athlon64 3500+ (Socket 939) in an Asus A8N-SLi SE motherboard with an X1800GTO video card. I'd still recommend updating your PSU, if it came with your case, it's unlikely 450W. If it says 450 on the label it's going to be about 250 tops. Grab something like an Aspire 500W from newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102021 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103603 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131524 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817148027 Well under 500 for all that.
wat do you think about this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131541 my cousin just spent 95 on this board but how is it in comparison to the one you suggested??
Sorry, can you tell me which one it is? My PC doesn't like looking at the newegg website for some reason, I live in the UK. It's been fine before, but sometimes I just can't get through... :-( Never mind, got it now. A8V's use the VIA chipset which isn't as good as the nForce 4, particularly if you're overclocking you'd want the A8N-SLi, whether you'll use SLi or not. Erk. wrong thread. I'm a mess! You'd find an nForce 4 chipset faster and it's just a better mobo overall.
ok i c another thing can i oc this one you suggested?? and where can i find out about how to do this??
Heh cool. I'd recommend the nForce 4 over any other chipset, at least on socket 939 and 775. Not sure about the 500 on AM2, but let's not complicate things further!
i justy have one last question about the board you reccomended can i use pc 2700 2100 mem sticks on this board or not?? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131524
You can use both stick in there, but they both will be clocked down to pc2100 since it accomodates the slowest one. So you will be running those two sticks at pc2100. It should be alright until you get better ones. If you plan to upgrade, which I hope you do soon to get better performance, I recommend at least 1gb of ram. Two is even better. Corsair XMS series are top of the line. one gig http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145450 two gigs http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145575
not only is XMS fantastic, it's also quite cheap as long as you don't go for the CAS2 stuff. You'd be better off using 3200 in a newer system, 2100 really will cause a bottleneck.
