I hope someone can help me. I recently purchased an ATAPI DVD DW 8X16X8X16 and Nero Version: 6.6.1.4. I can't get this thing to copy or create DVD-R or DVD+R. I've tried several different media, from Sony to Imation. I have Googled until I am nearly blind. I did manage to fix the Session Ended message by disabling my Norton Anti-Virus, but I still get these error messages. I've tried cleaning the laser with a CD/DVD disk, but it doesn't help. Can anyone help me find out what's wrong? Here is the last of the Log file. You left out the part that states what version Nero you are using, your drives and setup, all which is necessary to look at. From what you have Are you using the InCD program for some reason, because it can cause conflicts and better to be removed. Download the InCD clean tool and uninstall. http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/Clean_Tools.html Try ripping to your HDD first and then copying, on the fly can cause errors. Also, it may not be liking this media, check with whoever made this drive to insure you have the correct up to date firmware for the burner. Without the other portion of your log I can't tell.
Sorry, I wasn't sure how much to include. I really need some help. I've burned up a lot of money in DVD-Rs just trying to make a DVD. This was from trying to copy one. Where would I find the latest firmware for this drive? I've looked on the Internet, but I don't know for sure what to look for in this case. Seems there is some debate as to what exactly the mfr of this drive is, you can read more here on the drive. Without knowing the mfr it is hard to say what the fw is for the burner. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=178360&page=2&pp=25 Just what process are you using to backup your DVD's as Nero will not burn protected media. You must rip it first with a program that breaks the protection, and then compress it to fit a single layer disk and then burn.
The media is not protected, or at least I don't think so. I ran the simulation without any problem. I was also unable to load some AVI files onto a DVD-R. I tried both as data and after running through the Nero Converter. I did buy this Norwood DVD-RW drive from CompUSA. I'm confused, too. So what firmware do I need that I don't have? Where can I find it? I am getting desparate. I really appreciate any help you can offer a computer novice like myself.
For now uninstall InCD and use the clean tool, then try doing a burn that is not on the fly. InCD will cause problems. Removing it may solve what is wrong. According to what I read about the drive it is a rebadged BenQ which is a good drive. Lokking at a BenQ1640's fw yes they do have a G series update, but unless you can definitely say this is the drive flashing can be harmful. Better to call your CompUSA and verify just what this drive is. Sometimes OEM drives are hard to pin down on what make/model they are.

Your computer does have USB2.0 doesn't it. If you have DVD Decrypter installed, use this program and try and see if it will burn to a disk. Use DVD Decrypter in iso read mode to rip, and then iso write mode to write. Isn't this what Nero is supposed to do? I think I have 2.0 USB. At least that's what it says in the system folder. The DVD external drive is supposed to be compatible with 1.1 USB as well, so I don't know that could be any problem. My wife is demanding that I stop for dinner. I've been working at this since early yesterday. I appreciate the help, but it doesn't seem to be solving my problem. I guess it's back to CompUSA.
