Determining IP Info for eth0 FAILED

In an effort to install Linux on an AMD Sempron that already has Windows XP on it (dual boot) I cant establish a internet connection and updates fail. I tried resolving this with two different distributions (SuSE and Fedora Core)

*decided to keep SuSE by the way

Connection fails on either and I'm not sure where to go from here. Looking up a failed connection is like searching for a needle in a haystack. One thing i did check was to see if windows has connection when i boot in windows and yes, it connects fine, no problem at all. (start-up is taking a lil longer now with linux on the hd but thats about it)

Anybody know how I can resolve this? I installed the same distro's on several other pc's and have not had this problem. Seems to be only the pc with XP that has the issues.

I thought it was, but after rebooting I lost connection again. I am on the computer that can't establish a connection, I'm just currently using windows. That tells me its something in SuSE itself. Does anyone have a clue? because I sure don't. I have tried everything I know to do.
