i have a fast computer with a dvd-rom and plenty of space. ive had my eye on the pioneer a04 or a05 and im planning to buy one of the two, but...
all i do is decrypt a dvd, and burn it? am i missing a step here? it just sounds too easy.
    any help would be appreciated.

it is simple...but more to it than what you just said...read,read,read..trial and error...there are plenty of guides.

    Oh yes cheezzz.

I have got my eye on that one, seems like pioneer and sony are going head to head with the dual format options - be interesting to see who comes out on top......

Seems like sony is ahead since they pioneered (what a pun) the dual format. They have already established themselves IMO.

Is being able to burn +R and -R that big of an advantage over regular burners?

It all depends on what you want your burner for.

-r gives you constant bitrate and once only burning. (good if you just want straight burns)

+r gives you variable bitrate (upto 240mins at present) and various editing options software dependent of course.(good if you want to edit dv/camcorder/tv etc)

    Good choice HP !!
I have the HP200i DVD+r/+rw and I am very very satisfied with it.
Made 50+ DVD movie copies and about 85+ PS2 game copies.

I guess the HP300i can burn at 4x speed.

i keep changing my mind on what i want to buy either hp dvd300i or pioneer a05. my friend has the a05 and has had no problems. but the dvd300i is cheaper. i also read somewhere that the dvd300i has compatablility problems with specific hardware. any suggestions?
