Hello I was wondering if my laptop can support sata harddrive i have a dell 600m and it has 40gb ata 6 and i really would like a upgrade to sata and 7,200 rpm about 100gb so i can download stuff. DOes anyone know for sure if i can upgrade to sata or i have buy ata 6 100gb?
Go to www.dell.com. Select support. Then support, then enter your service tag #. Then select upgrades. If your laptop can upgrade to sata it will say. But laptops aren't known for being expansion friendly.
According to dell's upgrade specs. You can upgrade to sata. I couldn't find a diagram of the board to verify this. But they say you can. If you have any other questions you might get a more specific answer by calling them. 1-800-WWW-DELL EDIT> You might want to edit out the service #.
can't go sata. go with either usb or firewire external hd. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...=dhs&cs=19&category_id=2999&mfgpid=160108&p=2
I would go ddp's route. The selection according to dell didn't seem right. I use an external, just be sure to buy a good name brand.
oO but i do have external harddrive maxtor 300gb onetouchII usb 2.0... but i want a faster rpm... so i can play games faster
OOOOkaaaaa... Like I said laptops are not that flexible. Try this link, http://www.powerleap.com/. It will diagnose your laptop and tell you what you can max out to. I finally figured out what ddp was referring to. Dell basically just sent me to a default hard drive line up. At the time I was searching, didn't have enough free time to dig deeper. Good luck.
