Ok heres what im doing.i want to reninstall my xp proffesional on my new sata 400 gig segate harddrive.Why? I got a virus i cant get off of old drive that already has windows. the problem is that when i pop in the xp pro disc it says You already have a new version of windows or something like that so i cant install it. what i wiill do if i can get windows on the new drive is ill take the old drive out. I can format the old drive to get windows off but it says ill lose everything on that disk. i dont really care except that how will i use the computer to reinstall windows then? will this work?I already tried turing on computer with xp disk but it doesnt read the cd. I already checked the bios to see if the thing is set to read cds at startup.what can i do?
Remove the old HDD and put in your new one set it to primary master put in the XP disc and it should prompt you too install if not then that xp disc if for use to upgrade not install some xp disc wont boot(dumb if you ask me)....
How Do I set a serial ata to master ? thers no pins or anything. And i tried that xp thing and it wont boot. cd drive is installed
ok i tried this. i downloaded seagates hd copying tool and copied my moms computer harddisk to my serial ata.I got windows home edition on there i hope.but when i plug in my hd to comp and turn it on it says NTLDR is compressed.i tried deleting this NTLDR file but i stilll get same message. what do i do to make this work?
