It seems like my Sygate Personal Firewall blocks port 25 (SMTP) so I can't send e-mail, although I can receive it and otherwise my net works quite fine. I use Thunderbird, and I've set Sygate to allow Thunderbird. I went to Applications/Advanced where I selected port 25 to be opened in both Remote Server Ports and Local Ports for Thunderbird. But this did not fix my problem. Why?

The SMTP server I tried to access should not be down, since I tried three different servers from three completely different providers. Thunderbird also did FIND the servers, but then it gave me error 10060 (TCP timeout).

to my knowled sygate is outdated now since symantec bought it over, so i recommend updating your firewall to another free software such as ZoneAlarm or Kerio Personal Firewall.
