Site update - March 16th 2010

AfterDawn.com has been updated! In addition to renewing the layout of the site we have also speeded up things considerably. The new version has been tested on our Finnish site for several months, and during the testing we have managed to improve the new version even further.

You can now enjoy this new layout at English AfterDawn.com and English Discussion Forums as well! We have also introduced new sections to the site, and re-arranged things a bit.

Final Fantasy XI Private Servers? **No Email Posting Or Will Be Banned**

#1 07 Jul 2006 @ 23:35
I was wondering if there are any free private servers for Final Fantasy
XI. If you're able to help, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
#2 13 Jul 2006 @ 19:01
No, there will not be any free private servers, they are private because you are potentially renting this server
#3 13 Jul 2006 @ 21:22
Sorry, that's not what I meant. I was talking about how people host their own server for an MMORPG and people can sign up and play on it for free. They have these for Lineage 2 and World of Warcraft but I haven't seen any for FFXI.
#4 14 Jul 2006 @ 9:46
oh okay... uhm.. I looked around and i'm pretty sure there isn't

#5 16 Jul 2006 @ 16:43
Yeah, I haven't seen any either, lol. I really wish one turns up sometime though.
#6 17 Jul 2006 @ 10:34
lol, SPAM THE SERVERS!

#7 24 Jul 2006 @ 7:06
there will never be any private servers for XI because it requires you to log on to Playonline fist and then connects you to you're server from there, and there is no way to log into XI with frist loging in to POL
#8 24 Jul 2006 @ 22:19
Ohhhh....That explains a lot. Thanks man.

un less if you make your own pol to boot up ffxi and reencode ffxi to send you to your server

THF58/NIN29 Gilgamesh Server

WOuld be hard to make your own POL because there is A LOT of server side side stuff that you can't get or make from making your own. Would be nice to have a private server with about 100 people or so, only only problem is then the economy wouldn't be viable because it couldn't sustain itself with that few number of people.

Do you have to use a credit card to play FFXI online I bought it and installed is but to regester it is asking for a credit card is there a way around that and if not how much is it

I'm sure there are plenty of Final Fantasy Private Servers, you just need to look, I found a huge amount of WoW Private Servers, and I even saw some Ragnork Online ones. Just need to do the looking, sure you will find some.

Yes you have to have one. It will not let you play without one.

$12.95 a month for your first character, $1 for each extra or "mule" you want to create.

$30 for what? He said he's already bought the game and installed it. The only charge is the $12.95 a month for your first character, there is no "$30 charge" just to log onto POL.

There are a lot of games with private servers like WoW, Ragnarok Online and Lineage II to name a few but, as has already been mentioned there most likely will not be one for FFXI due to the Client/Server restraints of Play Online. If there is one though, somebody PM me because I'm there.

Your book is wrong then, maybe a typo or something. All you need is a valid credit card to register with and you can log into POL (the main lobby server basically) all you want and they won't charge you anything. Only thing you get charged for is to actaully play FF or Tetramaster.

There are several private servers in japan, a buddy of mine was showing my screens and movies of instant levels, 1 hit kills and all items. Idk if they plan on bringing them to America or it is possible. But I do know japan has them, and most of them are free

^That site has some decent looking servers.

There are FFXI private servers in the works, but they are NOT free.
In order to play on the private server, you must have an active and working POL account.
HOWEVER, these private servers are completely customizable, including drop rates, exp rates, gil rates, shop prices, stat increase per level, etc...
I, myself, have a semi-working FFXI server by using the emulator built by the crew at projectxi.sourceforge.net

Private servers are quite illegal in most countries and probably shouldn't be talked about in these forums.

A site at this (http://www.xtremetop100.com/final-fantasy) top100 list claims to have a free FFXI server. It brings me to a german site which doesn't seem to host a FFXI server so it's mostlikely bull.
Bah it sucks. I've got no problem paying for a game ONCE, but monthly fees suck.
