Firstly I want to say Hi because this will be my first post, although I have been a reader for a good couple of months and the information here has helped me tremendously. So I am going to be building a custom pc for many reasons but my computer history has always been HP. I have been doing searches and found that a lot of US residence buy from NewEgg and also that I should probably wait tell the 24th to buy the Processor I want because I read this article http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=2800 that someone else posted. So what I am looking for in a PC is to be able to play some newer games, be able to back up DVDs those two things I do the most but I do a lot of other little things for work on my pc, some things I would like is; AMD, NVIDIA (hopeful), windows (XP or media edition). Some good set ups would help, this is just for the desktop alone (already have monitor) Thanks in advance to anyone who can help, if there is more information need to help me let me know and I will get more in depth.
where do you want to start omg 2000 dollars you could blow away an alienware 5,000 dollar computer into the ground am2 board am2 processor 2g's ram ddr2 zalman processor fan two dvd burners two hard drives floppy drive always need a floppy 2 video cards for sli if you like if interested i can give you more details on things but this would be best bet to start looking around

Thanks for the advice, is there any other places like NewEgg. Or where are you getting your prices from? Does anyone know if AMD is really going to be having the price cut on the 24th?
i got the prices straight from newegg, TBH i live in britan, so i don't know any sites to buy things from in america. I'm pretty certain AMD will drop they're prices on 24th, they'll have to in order to sell more that a few proccessors, as conroe will indeed have better performance, so consumers need to have an incentive to buy AMD proccessors. You should probably add two of these and set them in RAID 0. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822136012 your pc will kill anyone's with those. You can add another 320 harddrive and set all three drives in RAID 0+1. Then use the 500gb hd for genral storage.
I suggest you also get a water cooling system. For the GPUs, Id wait a bit for the 8 series but if you have to get one now the best available is the 7900gtx 512 mb. You could probably get 2 in SLI for below $2000 but you should still wait for 8 series.
the card i suggested is a GeForce 7950, which is basically two 7900gt's bolted together, it gives higher performance than a single 7900gtx, it costs about as much as two 7900gt's in SLi and performs as well as two 7900gt's in SLi. The difference is that it only uses one PCI-E slot, so that in the future you can put another one in and have a Quad SLi system, and it uses less power than two 7900gt's in SLi review: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2769
