I picked this up yesterday from Amazon.com Memorex 100 Pack (Spindle) CD-R 700 MB, 80 Min. 32X Part Number 3202 4580 ATIP: 97m 24s 01f Disc Manufacturer: Taiyo Yuden Company Ltd. Reflective layer: Dye (Long strategy; e.g. Cyanine, Azo etc.) Media type: CD-Recordable nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 73f / LBA: 359848)
I wish I could find the Taiyo made Memorex "data" CD-Rs where I live. I have seen them with rebate for 9.99 a 50 pack. My local Best Buy still has hundreds of the CMC and Ritek 16X and 24X speeds (they had a big center aisle display of them)and I guess they wont get any new Taiyo's until they sell the old ones off. - all I have seen are the "Music" CD-R's.
Anyone knows who makes the Memorex 50 pack 80Min/700Mb 40x CDR's that is on-sale from both OfficeMax and OfficeDepot this week but says Made in Taiwan on the packaging? Thanks.
I was told by some people that some Memorex's are Taiyo-Yuden but that's like weird since it's made in Taiwan. Ofcourse, Mitsubishi Chemicals sold under Verbatim are made there too.
Almighty1, the manufacturer of the Memorex's you describe (50-spindle-packs, Taiwainese-made) is CMC Magnetics Corp., as reported by CD-Identifier. (All-white tops, blue text). Slighty different part no. from the above post, is PN 3202 4560. I use these almost exclusively for making vcds as they seem very stable, are quite easy on the pocketbook, and give more than the usual amount of labelling space on the top side. A good disc. -- KlingonAgent --
There is no way that I agree any CMC magnetics disc being good. They give bad or inconsistent quality. May depend on the writer of course, but my experinces have been very poor and I have tried them every now and then during the last 3 years or so.
A_Klingon, Actually, the Taiyo Yuden Memorex's are the 32x ones. The 40x's are all CMC or even Ritek's. cd-rw.org, isn't Mitsubishi Chemicals made in the same factories as CMC?
Thanks for the warning, Lasse. I won't buy any more Memorex CMCs when my current supply runs out. Appreciate the 'heads-up'. (I'm lucky so far perhaps - no problems at all as yet). If I experience any glitches or abnormalties, I'll post here right away. Almighy1: Oh my gosh - I just looked at the outside label of the 50-pack Memorex's (the CMC ones) - they're only rated at 16x (!!!) - Must be really old stock or something. Hope to hell they're still playable in a couple of years! (But you know? I only *burn* the vcds at either 2x or 4x speed anyway) (??) -- K.A. --
Woah, 16x only? I got the 32x's from OfficeDepot.com which they had for $24.99 with a $20 mail in rebate. OfficeMax had it for $12.99 with a $8 mail in rebate so I got officedepot to give me a pricematch so now it's $12.99+tax with a $20 rebate so I'm actually making $7.01 before taxes
Almighty1, I have never heard of anything going on with Mitsu and CMC. Well, the cheapest Verbatim models are made by CMC.
cd-rw.org, Dunno, I read somewhere on the forums here that some of the Verbatim (Mitsubishi Chemical) were made in the same plant as CMC. Doesn't mean they are made by CMC but they could just share a factory or location. Ofcourse, someone also said Verbatim is owned by Mitsubishi. I remember back in the old days when we still all used 5.25" floppies, Verbatim was somehow related to Kodak.
Verbatim CDs say "Verbatim - a Mitsubishi Chemicals Company", or similar. Mitsubishi uses their patented azo-dyes while CMC doesn't.

I don't think your in the correct forum for Hijack logs. You PC seems to be plugged with lots of memory hogging startups (04)and activex nuisances (016).Also unless AOL is your homepage, youve been hijacked. 'Startcop' can disable startup items until you know if they are necessary or not. Here's a simple tutorial page. http://www.aumha.org/a/hjttutor.php Here's a copy of mine to compare. Yeh I bought memorex 52x cdr obviously from walmart and even burning on 8x(slowest i can) I get skips/poor quality
What drive are you using and what firmware version? (Going too much slower with fast acting 52X can actually create worse recordings on many drives because the dye is "overburned."
