Its probably the discs, looks like they are TDK manufacture. Try Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden manufacture discs. Your firmware is out of date, and updating that might help the drive burn those discs. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1740 Looks like you can go to 1.0A as the latest for that NEC drive. Try those things with the firmware update for the drive first, then switch to a different disc manufacture if you still get illegal disc error after firmware update.
@ MaxBurn, Welcome back!! This is a really old version of Nero, try for update from here, both packages http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe Package 2 http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe If that is unsuccessful try this update for 6.3.1.4 http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/Updates_prev.html
Thanks for your quick reply, on the subject of firmware, This drive is actually an ND-2100a, that has been flashed up to a 2500. Will this affect my ability to update the firmware further?
Hi Gwen! Its been so long, i thought that nero version was the updated one. LOL Guess im a bit rusty. I've been working too much to spare the time to come here, so i just made the time while on my break. I will try to pop in more often, when i can. @brad38 If the drive has been crossflashed, you should be able to stick with the current firmware. If you have problems, here is the firmware for the ND-2100A http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1793 I would try updating with the crossflashed firmware first, and see if that helps with the drive burning the TDK discs. The major problem you might have with updating firmware is that you are many versions behind. If you try the latest firmware, and the update says it is only for an ND-2500A, try going progressivly up in firmware updates until you get to the latest. IE go to 1.07 or 1.09 first if 1.0A is not taking.
@brad38 Looks like your trying to copy using disc at once with Nero onto poor media. All times are within the same minute. It just never gets started. Is the disc copy protected or dirty? What other programs are you using?
i have a bunch of images i am trying to burn to dvd, It works fine with an imation dvd-rw. i am sure its the disks, and i think gettin new disks would be a fair bit easier than trying to update the firmware, however i do like a challenge.

I see something in your drivers list that is corrupted: Those ???? means that file is corrupted. Try googling for atapi.sys and download that file. Some reports state this corruption is caused by XP service pack 2 having a buggy atapi.sys file. Sometimes the program alcohol 120% locks this file and keeps it from being updated if you were installing service pack 2. That file is the IDE driver and could be one of your problems.
