I downloaded this program a while back and I found out it had adware from a site and this became apparent later on with many more pop-ups and advertisements than normal in the form of adult websites, supposed firefox advertisements and 'guitar' links. I uninstalled the software and still got these problems...I read how another person had the same problem but it didn't explain how he actually got rid of it...here's the link http://www.technozid.de/2006/07/11/guitarfx-hijacks-your-browser/ ...help would be appreciated.

    Bob,
Get the following programs for free if you do not have them. Ad-Aware by Lavasoft you can find it at lavasoft.com. You will actually be doing the download at download.com but I want to make sure you have the right one. If you do not have anti-virus you may find AVG for free at download.com.

Reboot your computer in safe mode so that none of your start up programs are running. Run the Ad-Aware from there. Do a full system scan and remove everything it finds. I don't think you have a virus but I always run my virus scan in safe mode also.

Next go online and download the google toolbar. This has a pop-up blocker on it. If you are running Windows XP then make sure your firewall is enabled and select the box to block pop ups.

If you still have a problem after this then let me know and we will go to stage 2 of system cleaning!!

GuitarFX alters your host file located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc folder.
Clean the extra junk from there and it should be good.

P.S. The host file is read only so uncheck the read only property before editing and don't forget to change it back after you're done.
